Circular RNA expression landscapes in myelodysplastic neoplasms: Associations with mutational signatures and disease progression

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
In this explorative study, the abundance of circular RNA molecules in bone marrow stem cells was found to be elevated in patients with high‐risk myelodysplastic neoplasms, and to be associated with an increased risk of progression to acute myeloid leukemia.

Symmetric Responses to Diet by Plumage Carotenoids in Violet-Sensitive Piciform–Coraciiform Birds

open access: yesDiversity
Biological studies on symmetry can be expanded to consider red (longer wavelengths) and blue (shorter wavelengths) shifts as antisymmetries (opposite-pattern symmetries), which may arise from similar underlying causes (invariant process symmetries).

Sensing Characteristics of Side-Hole Fiber-Based Long-Period Grating

open access: yesAdvances in Materials Science and Engineering, 2013
Long-period gratings (LPGs) have been fabricated in a side-hole fiber (SHF) by using a pulsed CO2 laser. Sensing characteristics of this SHF-LPG to temperature surrounding refractive index and bend have been investigated.

Interaction of an electron gas with photoexcited electron-hole pairs in modulation-doped GaAs and CdTe quantum wells

open access: yes, 2001
The nature of the correlated electron gas and its response to photo-injected electron-hole pairs in nominally undoped and modulation-doped multiple quantum-well (MQW) structures was studied by experiment and theory, revealing a new type of optically ...

THEORY OF THE STRUCTURE OF THE SELF-TRAPPED EXCITON IN QUARTZ [PDF]

open access: yes, 2002
Quartz is an insulator with an extremely wide band gap in the vacuum ultra-violet. However, under irradiation from high-energy electrons or X-rays, samples of high purity emit a luminescence band in the blue, corresponding to a Stokes shift of ...

Colorectal cancer‐derived FGF19 is a metabolically active serum biomarker that exerts enteroendocrine effects on mouse liver

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Meta‐transcriptome analysis identified FGF19 as a peptide enteroendocrine hormone associated with colorectal cancer prognosis. In vivo xenograft models showed release of FGF19 into the blood at levels that correlated with tumor volumes. Tumoral‐FGF19 altered murine liver metabolism through FGFR4, thereby reducing bile acid synthesis and increasing ...

Identification of serum protein biomarkers for pre‐cancerous lesions associated with pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
This work identified serum proteins associated with pancreatic epithelial neoplasms (PanINs) and early‐stage PDAC. Proteomics screens assessed genetically engineered mice with abundant PanINs, KPC mice (Lox‐STOP‐Lox‐KrasG12D/+ Lox‐STOP‐Lox‐Trp53R172H/+ Pdx1‐Cre) before PDAC development and also early‐stage PDAC patients (n = 31), compared to benign ...

Frequency dependent polarizability of small metallic grains

open access: yes, 2011
We study the dynamic electronic polarizability of a single nano-scale spherical metallic grain using quantum mechanical approach. We introduce the model for interacting electrons bound in the grain allowing us numerically to calculate the frequency ...
