INVESTIGATING THE MASS SEGREGATION PROCESS IN GLOBULAR CLUSTERS WITH BLUE STRAGGLER STARS: THE IMPACT OF DARK REMNANTS [PDF]

open access: yes, 2016
We present the results of a set of N-body simulations aimed at exploring how the process of mass segregation (as traced by the spatial distribution of blue straggler stars, BSSs) is affected by the presence of a population of heavy dark remnants (as ...

Intelligent Holographic Antiglare Windshield System with Head‐up Display

open access: yesAdvanced Intelligent Systems, EarlyView.
The antiglare holographic optical element (aHOE) in the intelligent holographic antiglare windshield system can achieve a light energy attenuation of about 40% for LED and sunlight incident light, reducing abnormal brightness distribution caused by glare.

Optical Fiber‐Based Versatile Wearable Force Myography System: Application to Human–Robot Interaction

open access: yesAdvanced Intelligent Systems, EarlyView.
A compact and flexible wearable force myography sensor based on optical fiber technology detects muscle activity through pressure‐induced light loss. The sensor offers high sensitivity for detecting subtle force and finger motion changes, along with excellent signal stability under dynamic and sweating conditions.

WIYN Open Cluster Study. XC. Radial-velocity Measurements and Spectroscopic Binary Orbits in the Open Cluster NGC 2506

open access: yesThe Astronomical Journal
NGC 2506 is a rich, intermediate-age (2.0 Gyr), metal-poor ([Fe/H] ∼ −0.2) open cluster. This work presents the results of 12,157 spectroscopic radial-velocity measurements of 2442 stars in the NGC 2506 field obtained over 41 yr, made as part of the WIYN

Pancake Lenses through Curved Lamination for Compact Virtual Reality

open access: yesAdvanced Intelligent Systems, EarlyView.
This article presents an ultrathin VR optical system based on a 1.35 in. microdisplay, leveraging curved lamination technology. Compared to mainstream solutions, the proposed design demonstrates superior compactness (volume compression by 12%) and enhanced optical performance.

Variability of jaw muscles in Tunisian street dogs and adaptation to skull shape

open access: yesThe Anatomical Record, EarlyView.
Abstract The impact of artificial selection on the masticatory apparatus of dogs has been poorly studied, and comparative data with dogs subjected to more natural constraints are lacking. This study explores the jaw musculature of Tunisian street dogs, which are largely free from the influence of breed‐specific selection.

Predicting the Uniform Electron Gas Stopping Power at Moderate and Strong Coupling

open access: yesContributions to Plasma Physics, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT This paper presents a detailed study of the stopping power of a homogeneous electron gas in moderate and strong coupling regimes using the self‐consistent version of the method of moments as the key theoretical approach capable of expressing the dynamic characteristics of the system in terms of the static ones, which are the moments.
