Blue Straggler Stars beyond the Milky Way. IV. Radial Distributions and Dynamical Implications [PDF]
Blue straggler stars (BSSs) have been proposed as powerful indicators to measure the dynamical state of Galactic globular clusters (GCs). Here we examine for the first time whether this framework of BSSs as dynamical clocks, which was specifically ...

Young blue straggler stars in the Galactic field [PDF]
In this study we present an analysis of a sample of field blue straggler (BS) stars that show high ultra violet emission in their spectral energy distributions (SED): indication of a hot white dwarf (WD) companion to BS. Using photometry available in the Sloan Digital Sky Survey (SDSS) and Galaxy Evolution Explorer (GALEX ) surveys we identified 80 ...

Recent Advances in Enhancing the Sensitivity of Biosensors Based on Field Effect Transistors
This paper discusses the methods to enhancing the detection sensitivity of biosensors in three aspects: overcoming the influence of Debye shielding effects, promoting the binding efficiency of analytes and transistor surface, and improving the structures of device.

Blue Straggler Stars Beyond the Milky Way. III. Detection of Evolved Blue Straggler Candidates in Large Magellanic Cloud Clusters [PDF]
We analyze Hubble Space Telescope observations of nine Large Magellanic Cloud star clusters with ages of 1–2 Gyr to search for evolved counterparts of blue straggler stars.

Tracking a killer shrimp: Dikerogammarus villosus invasion dynamics across Europe
Abstract Aim Invasive alien species are a growing problem worldwide due to their ecological, economic and human health impacts. The “killer shrimp” Dikerogammarus villosus is a notorious invasive alien amphipod from the Ponto‐Caspian region that has invaded many fresh and brackish waters across Europe.

Modeling the radial distribution of blue stragglers in M3
Recent surveys of the blue straggler (BS) population in the galactic globular cluster M3 (NGC 5272) give the first complete characterization of the number density of BSs as a function of radius over an entire globular cluster. The BSs in M3 are overabundant at large radii, and significantly underabundant at intermediate radii.

INVESTIGATING THE MASS SEGREGATION PROCESS IN GLOBULAR CLUSTERS WITH BLUE STRAGGLER STARS: THE IMPACT OF DARK REMNANTS [PDF]
We present the results of a set of N-body simulations aimed at exploring how the process of mass segregation (as traced by the spatial distribution of blue straggler stars, BSSs) is affected by the presence of a population of heavy dark remnants (as ...
