Continuous purification of a parvovirus using two aqueous two‐phase extraction steps

open access: yesBiotechnology Progress, EarlyView.
Abstract Aqueous two‐phase systems (ATPS) are a liquid–liquid extraction method that offers low‐cost, continuous‐adaptable virus purification. A two‐step ATPS using polyethylene glycol (PEG) and sodium citrate that recovered 66% of infectious porcine parvovirus with 2.0 logs of protein removal and 1.0 logs of DNA removal in batch has now been run ...

Spectroscopy of Blue Stragglers and Turnoff Stars in M67 (NGC 2682) [PDF]

open access: yes, 2000
We have analyzed high-resolution spectra of relatively cool blue stragglers and main sequence turnoff stars in the old open cluster M67 (NGC 2682). We attempt to identify blue stragglers whose spectra are least contaminated by binary effects (contamination by a binary companion or absorption by circumstellar material).

Aging and Color Vision: A Model Using the Farnsworth‐MUNSELL 100‐Hue Test

open access: yesColor Research &Application, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Introduction This study examined the theoretical changes in the FM100 Hue scores induced by age‐related changes in the ocular media transmittance. These changes were analyzed with and without a von Kries‐type chromatic adaptation to determine the role of this adaptation process on age‐related changes in hue discrimination.

The Power of High-precision Broadband Photometry: Tracing the Milky Way Density Profile with Blue Horizontal Branch Stars in the Dark Energy Survey

open access: yesThe Astrophysical Journal
Blue horizontal branch stars (BHBs), excellent distant tracers for probing the Milky Way’s halo density profile, are distinguished in the ${\left(g-r\right)}_{0}$ versus ( i − z ) _0 color space from another class of stars, blue straggler stars.

The Distribution of Collisionally Induced Blue Stragglers in the Colour-Magnitude Diagram [PDF]

open access: yes, 1998
A primary production mechanism for blue stragglers in globular clusters is thought to be collisionally-induced mergers, perhaps mediated by dynamical encounters involving binary stars. We model the formation and evolution of such blue stragglers, and produce theoretical distributions of them in the colour-magnitude diagram.

A Spectroscopic Study of Blue Stragglers in M67 [PDF]

open access: yesProceedings of the International Astronomical Union, 2008
AbstractSpectrophotometric observations of the complete sample of twenty four blue stragglers (BSs) in the old galactic open cluster M67 (NGC2682) have been collected, using the Guillermo Haro Observatory in Cananea, Mexico. All the calibrated spectra were re-calibrated by the Beijing Arizona Taipei Connecticut (BATC) photometric system which includes ...

Photoinduced Dynamics of [N(C3H7)4]2[Cu4Br6] Thin Films with Dual Self‐Trapped Exciton Emission and Negative Thermal Quenching

open access: yesChemPhysChem, EarlyView.
Temperature‐dependent time‐resolved photoluminescence (PL) and transient absorption spectroscopy track the generation and decay of two self‐trapped exciton states (STE1 and STE2) in an [N(C3H7)4]2[Cu4Br6] thin film after photoexcitation. This efficient zero‐dimensional halocuprate(I) emitter shows a quite rarely observed increase of the PL intensity ...

Once a Triple, Not Always a Triple: The Evolution of Hierarchical Triples That Yield Merged Inner Binaries

open access: yesThe Astrophysical Journal
More than half of all main-sequence (MS) stars have one or more companions, and many of those with initial masses 10 yr) companions. Furthermore, both BSS binaries and DWDs exhibit signatures of WD birth kicks.

Elp1 function in placode‐derived neurons is critical for proper trigeminal ganglion development

open access: yesDevelopmental Dynamics, EarlyView.
Abstract Background The trigeminal nerve is the largest cranial nerve and functions in somatosensation. Cell bodies of this nerve are positioned in the trigeminal ganglion, which arises from the coalescence of neural crest and placode cells. While this dual cellular origin has been known for decades, the molecular mechanisms controlling trigeminal ...
