The Unreasonable Effectiveness of the nΣv Approximation
In kinetic theory, the classic n Σ v approach calculates the rate of particle interactions from local quantities: the number density of particles n , the cross section Σ, and the average relative speed v .

A compact and flexible wearable force myography sensor based on optical fiber technology detects muscle activity through pressure‐induced light loss. The sensor offers high sensitivity for detecting subtle force and finger motion changes, along with excellent signal stability under dynamic and sweating conditions.

The First Photometric Analysis of Two Low-mass-ratio Contact Binary Systems in TESS Survey
Low-mass-ratio ( q ) contact binary systems are progenitors of stellar mergers such as blue stragglers or fast-rotating FK Com stars. In this study, we present the first light curve analysis of two newly identified low mass-ratio contact binary systems ...

Pancake Lenses through Curved Lamination for Compact Virtual Reality
This article presents an ultrathin VR optical system based on a 1.35 in. microdisplay, leveraging curved lamination technology. Compared to mainstream solutions, the proposed design demonstrates superior compactness (volume compression by 12%) and enhanced optical performance.

Binary stars and their interactions shape the formation of compact binaries, supernovae, and gravitational-wave sources. The efficiency of mass transfer—the fraction of mass retained by the accretor during binary interaction—is a critical parameter that ...

The spectra and ages of blue stragglers
A mechanism similar to Wheeler's quasi-homogeneous evolution and Finzi and Wolf's proposal for blue stragglers is proposed as the origin of the blue stragglers in intermediate-age clusters. Blue stragglers are stars whose positions in color-magnitude diagrams of open and globular clusters are significantly above the turn-off points and in the region of

Field population II blue stragglers
Photometry and high-resolution spectra are presented and discussed of metal-poor stars hotter than the turn-off of globular clusters. Very few nonvariable candidates for blue stragglers can be identified One, HD 100363, is probably an old-disk short-period variable.

Commissioning an Inexpensive Off‐The‐Shelf Spectrograph for Radial‐Velocity Studies
ABSTRACT We present a way to set up an inexpensive out of the shelf spectrograph at a local observatory. Stability and resolution of the spectrograph are high enough for radial velocity determination of binary stars or determination of stellar characteristics. Even some exoplanets might be detectable via the radial velocity method.
