Engendering Blue Swimming Crab Fishery Management: A Case Study in Lampung, Indonesia
Fishery TechnologyDespite growing recognition of fisherwomen’s roles in the fisheries sector, their limited participation in fisheries management and governance remains a concern. A gender analysis of activities in the blue swimming crab (BSC) fishery illustrated how women are involved in all stages of the BSC value chain except at the capture stage. This study explored

Blue crab, Callinectes sapidus Rathbun, megalopae settle in seagrass or other complex submerged aquatic habitats in estuaries, where they metamorphose to the first juvenile (J1) crab stage. Within tidal areas, early juveniles (J1–2) leave such nursery areas by undergoing secondary dispersal during nocturnal flood tides.

Mitochondrial DNA Part A, 2015
The complete mitochondrial genome (mitogenome) of the blue swimming crab Portunus pelagicus Linnaeus, 1766 (Crustacea: Decapoda: Portunidae) was determined in this study. The full length mitogenome is 16 157 bp in size, and consists of 13 protein-coding genes, 22 tRNA genes, two rRNA genes, and a non-coding control region, with the base composition of ...

Structural definition of the neuromuscular system in the swimming-paddle opener muscle of blue crabs
Cell and Tissue Research, 2002Blue crabs are excellent swimmers, using their highly modified last pereiopods as sculling paddles. Hence, the hypertrophied paddle opener muscle was examined for adaptations of its motor innervation by an excitor and a specific inhibitor axon. The muscle has a uniform composition of slow fibers with long (6-12 microm) sarcomere lengths.
