Tuning the optical bandgap in layered hybrid perovskites through variation of alkyl chain length

open access: yesAPL Materials, 2019
Recently, layered hybrid perovskites have been attracting huge interest due to a wide range of possible chemical compositions and the resulting tunability of the materials’ properties.

Exchange-mediated magnetic blue-shift of the band-gap energy in the antiferromagnetic semiconductor MnTe

open access: yesNew Journal of Physics, 2020
In magnetic semiconductors the optical spectrum and, in particular, the absorption edge representing the band-gap are strongly affected by the onset of the magnetic order. This contribution to the band-gap energy has hitherto been described theoretically

Geometrically‐Screened, Sterically‐Hindered Additive for Wide‐Temperature Aqueous Zinc‐Ion Batteries

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
A molecular‑engineering strategy combining steric hindrance tuning with geometric optimization identifies cellobiose as an ideal additive for aqueous zinc‑ion batteries, enabling stable Zn deposition across a wide temperature range from −30 to 50 °C. Abstract Aqueous zinc‐ion batteries (AZIBs) are emerging as a highly promising alternative to lithium ...

Spin torque driven dynamics of a coupled two layer structure: interplay between conservative and dissipative coupling

open access: yes, 2016
In this manuscript the general concepts of spin wave theory are adapted to the dynamics of a self-polarized system based on two layers coupled via interlayer exchange (conservative coupling) and mutual spin torque (dissipative coupling).

Enhancing Synaptic Plasticity and Multistate Retention of Organic Neuromorphic Devices Using Anion‐Excessive Gel Electrolyte

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Anion‐excessive gel‐based organic synaptic transistors (AEG‐OSTs) that can maintain electrical neutrality are developed to enhance synaptic plasticity and multistate retention. Key improvement is attributed to the maintenance of electrical neutrality in the electrolyte even after electrochemical doping, which reduces the Coulombic force acting on ...

Localized High‐Concentration Electrolyte with Water‐Miscible Diluent Enables Stable Zinc Deposition and Long‐Life Aqueous Zinc Metal Batteries

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
A diisopropyl ether (DIPE)‐based, localized, high‐concentration electrolyte is developed to stabilize both electrodes in aqueous zinc batteries. By reducing water activity and promoting anion‐rich zinc‐ion solvation, it builds robust interphases at both the cathode and anode, ensuring uniform deposition, suppressed corrosion, and highly reversible ...

Snow monitoring at strategic locations improves water supply forecasting more than basin-wide mapping

open access: yesCommunications Earth & Environment
In the Western United States, water supply forecasting has traditionally relied on snow water equivalent measurements at ground-based stations due to their strong correlations with streamflow volume during spring and summer.

Center-to-limb variations of the He I 10 830 Å triplet

open access: yesAstronomy & Astrophysics
We present high-resolution spectroscopic observations of the quiet-Sun center-to-limb variations (CLV) of the He I triplet at 10 830 Å and the nearby Si I 10 827 Å line, observed with GREGOR Infrared Spectrograph (GRIS) and the improved High-resolution ...

Some remarks on a new exotic spacetime for time travel by free fall

open access: yes, 2018
This work is essentially a review of a new spacetime model with closed causal curves, recently presented in another paper (Class. Quantum Grav. \textbf{35}(16) (2018), 165003).

Self‐Hybridized Exciton‐Polariton Photodetectors From Layered Metal‐Organic Chalcogenolates

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Self‐hybridized exciton‐polariton photodetectors are demonstrated using high refractive index mithrene, eliminating the need for top mirrors. This simplified architecture enables tunable sub‐bandgap photodetection via lower exciton‐polariton states and enhanced carrier transport through ultrafast polariton group velocities.
