Moderators and mediators of pain and function outcomes in a new service delivery model for management of knee osteoarthritis in primary care (PARTNER): Secondary exploratory analysis of a randomized controlled trial

open access: yesArthritis Care &Research, Accepted Article.
Objective Explore moderators and mediators influenced changes in pain and function in people with knee osteoarthritis (OA) receiving a new model of primary care service delivery (PARTNER), at 12 months (ACTRN12617001595303). Methods Secondary analyses of a cluster randomized controlled trial comparing PARTNER to usual general practitioner‐delivered ...

Differences in genetic and environmental variation in adult BMI by sex, age, time period, and region: an individual-based pooled analysis of 40 twin cohorts.

open access: yesAmerican Journal of Clinical Nutrition, 2017
Background: Genes and the environment contribute to variation in adult body mass index [BMI (in kg/m2)], but factors modifying these variance components are poorly understood. Objective: We analyzed genetic and environmental variation in BMI between men ...

Association Between Sleep Disturbance and Subsequent Pain Interference in Patients With Early Rheumatoid Arthritis

open access: yesArthritis Care &Research, EarlyView.
Objective This study investigated whether sleep disturbance can predict the extent to which pain interferes with daily functioning in patients with early rheumatoid arthritis (RA). Methods Data were from adults with early RA (joint symptoms ≤12 months) enrolled in the Canadian Early Arthritis Cohort between 2016 and 2023.

Predictive models for response to non-invasive brain stimulation in stroke: A critical review of opportunities and pitfalls

open access: yesBrain Stimulation, 2021
Background: Noninvasive brain stimulation has been successfully applied to improve stroke-related impairments in different behavioral domains. Yet, clinical translation is limited by heterogenous outcomes within and across studies.

Childhood BMI in relation to microbiota in infancy and lifetime antibiotic use

open access: yesMicrobiome, 2017
BackgroundChildren with high body mass index (BMI) at preschool age are at risk of developing obesity. Early identification of factors that increase the risk of excessive weight gain could help direct preventive actions.

Polymer‐Incorporated Mechanically Compliant Carbon Nanotube Microelectrode Arrays for Multichannel Neural Signal Recording

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
This work presents a soft microelectrode array based on vertically aligned carbon nanotube (CNT) forests, combining high conductivity with mechanical softness. A densification process and air‐pressure‐assisted flexibilization improve structural integrity, ensuring stable insertion and reduced inflammation.

Targeted overexpression of the parkin substrate Pael-R in the nigrostriatal system of adult rats to model Parkinson's disease

open access: yesNeurobiology of Disease, 2009
Loss of function of parkin, an ubiquitin ligase, is responsible for autosomal recessive juvenile parkinsonism (AR-JP). Parkin-associated endothelin receptor-like receptor (Pael-R) was identified as an authentic substrate of parkin and is thought to ...

Epigenome-wide association study (EWAS) of BMI, BMI change and waist circumference in African American adults identifies multiple replicated loci.

open access: yesHuman Molecular Genetics, 2015
Obesity is an important component of the pathophysiology of chronic diseases. Identifying epigenetic modifications associated with elevated adiposity, including DNA methylation variation, may point to genomic pathways that are dysregulated in numerous ...
