Extending the Range of Sizes of Monodisperse Core‐Shell Hydrogel Capsules from Composite Jet Breakup by Combined Electrical and Mechanical Actuation

open access: yesAdvanced Science, Volume 12, Issue 38, October 13, 2025.
We present a microfluidic approach combining electrical and mechanical actuation to improve control over liquid jet breakup and droplet formation. By adjusting excitation frequency and applying an electric field, coalescence is reduced and droplet uniformity is enhanced.

Typological parameters of genericity [PDF]

open access: yes, 2000
Different languages employ different morphosyntactic devices for expressing genericity. And, of course, they also make use of different morphosyntactic and semantic or pragmatic cues which may contribute to the interpretation of a sentence as generic ...

Exceptional Visual‐Opsin Coexpression and Phenotypic Diversity in Outer‐Retinal Photoreceptors of Caenophidian Snakes

open access: yesJournal of Comparative Neurology, Volume 533, Issue 10, October 2025.
In snakes, profound differences in retinal architecture are observed between diurnal and nocturnal species. Additionally, in the rod‐dominated retinas of nocturnal snakes, coexpression of the cone opsins SWS1 and LWS in individual cones is common, while rhodopsin (RH1) is restricted to typical rods.

Prevalence and molecular identification of Cryptosporidium isolates from pet lizards and snakes in Italy

open access: yesParasite, 2012
In order to acquire prevalence and genetic data on Cryptosporidium infections in captive lizards and snakes kept as pets, a survey was conducted on 150 individual reptiles from southern Italy.

Object detection‐assisted workflow facilitates cryptic snake monitoring

open access: yesRemote Sensing in Ecology and Conservation, Volume 11, Issue 5, Page 606-617, October 2025.
Camera traps are powerful tools used to study animals. However, camera trap studies often produce large datasets requiring labor‐intensive classification. While many object detection models have been developed to facilitate image analysis, their efficacy when presented with novel species and systems is poorly understood.

Boid inclusion body disease : the enigma unraveled? [PDF]

open access: yes, 2019
Boid inclusion body disease is a worldwide occurring disease in boas and pythons. The identity of the etiological agent of the disease remained elusive for several decades.

Diversity Loss and Homogenization in Snake Communities in a Deforestation Hotspot

open access: yesDiversity and Distributions, Volume 31, Issue 10, October 2025.
ABSTRACT Aim Agricultural expansion into tropical forests causes massive biodiversity loss. However, existing knowledge about these losses is heavily biased towards rainforests, as well as towards birds and mammals. Focusing on the South American Chaco, a global hotspot of deforestation and defaunation, we assessed how agriculture‐driven deforestation ...
