Human‐Caused Leopard Deaths in Sri Lanka Are Concentrated in Central Highlands' Estate Mosaics: Evidence From 17 Years of Mortality Records 人为因素导致斯里兰卡豹死亡事件集中于中部高地种植园镶嵌景观:来自 17 年死亡记录的证据

open access: yesWildlife Letters, EarlyView.
Human‐caused leopard deaths in Sri Lanka averaged 9.65 ± 4.5 records year−1 over 17 years (2008–2024; n = 164), with records highly clustered in the central highland mosaic ecosystem. Mortality was dominated by adult males and driven primarily by snaring in plantation landscapes, and indicating an increase approximately 0.7–0.8 deaths per year.

The perturbation effect in wildlife systems: an emergent property of simple models [PDF]

open access: yes, 2012
Population reduction is often used as a control strategy when managing infectious diseases in wildlife populations, however it disrupts existing social structures and increases movement of infectives due to the vacuum effect, which may lead to enhanced ...

All roads lead to infection: A mechanistic model to assess transmission routes of brucellosis in a wild ungulate population

open access: yesFunctional Ecology, EarlyView.
Read the free Plain Language Summary for this article on the Journal blog. Abstract Wildlife and domestic populations frequently share diseases with a potential for cross‐species transmission, posing significant threats to animal and human health, economy and biodiversity conservation.

Long‐term changes in functional diversity and its implications for mammalian conservation and ecological restoration in a grassland ecosystem

open access: yesFunctional Ecology, EarlyView.
Read the free Plain Language Summary for this article on the Journal blog. Abstract Paleontological data provide information on natural environments prior to human influence, which are useful for tracking changes in ecosystem functioning through time. During the Late Pleistocene, about 10% of terrestrial mammalian species were extinct in South America.

Towards a genomic platform for analysis of wild boar and suiforme diversity and evolution

open access: yes, 2008
The pig (Sus scrofa domesticus) was domesticated from Sus scrofa, the wild boar, 9,000 years ago and studies utilizing mitochrondrial DNA analysis indicate that this occurred through multiple independent events around the world (Central Europe, Italy ...

Effects of Fluorescence-Activated Cell Sorting on Boar Sperm Motility Subpopulations and In Vitro Embryo Development. [PDF]

open access: yesMol Reprod Dev
Effects of fluorescence‐activated sperm sorting on IVF outcomes and motility subpopulations. Distinct boar ejaculates were either used directly for in vitro fertilization (IVF; control, unsorted) or processed by fluorescence‐activated cell sorting to generate a sorted sperm population.

Belowground effects of ground‐dwelling large herbivores in forest ecosystems

open access: yesJournal of Animal Ecology, EarlyView.
This study reviews how ground‐dwelling large herbivores affect forest soil and litter globally. Effects are context‐dependent, vary among species and forest types, and remain poorly studied in tropical forests, highlighting critical gaps in understanding nutrient cycling and ecosystem functioning.

New aspects of boar sperm encapsulation

open access: yes, 2011
The study takes into account the main steps and techniques for boar semen encapsulation, to optimize the instrumental insemination interventions. The use of cheap, biocompatible polymers as alginate can assure a regular, constant release of spermatozoa ...
