Investigating the role of free-ranging wild boar (Sus scrofa) in the re-emergence of enzootic pneumonia in domestic pig herds: a pathological, prevalence and risk-factor study.

open access: yesPLoS ONE, 2015
Enzootic pneumonia (EP) caused by Mycoplasma hyopneumoniae has a significant economic impact on domestic pig production. A control program carried out from 1999 to 2003 successfully reduced disease occurrence in domestic pigs in Switzerland, but ...

Managing wild boar - considerations for wild boar management based on game biology data

open access: yesJulius-Kühn-Archiv, 2011
The wild boar is a large ungulate which may produce serious economic problems. As the wild boar is highly reproductive, a fast dispersing species and flexible in behavior, management has to be adapted to the adaptive wild boar populations.

Feral wild boar distribution and perceptions of risk on the central Canadian prairies

open access: yesWildlife Society Bulletin, 2014
Feral wild boar (Sus scrofa) are rapidly expanding their distribution and abundance globally and causing considerable socio‐economic impacts. Prior to this study, the spatial distribution of feral boar on the Canada prairies was largely unknown.

Investigation Into the Relationship Between Sperm Cysteine-Rich Secretory Protein 2 (CRISP2) and Sperm Fertilizing Ability and Fertility of Boars

open access: yesFrontiers in Veterinary Science, 2021
The proteins in the seminal plasma and on the sperm surface play important roles in sperm function and numerous reproductive processes. The cysteine-rich secretory proteins (CRISPs) are enriched biasedly in the male reproductive tract of mammals, and ...

Spermatogenesis in the boar [PDF]

open access: yesVeterinary Quarterly, 1982
In order to study kinetics of the spermatogenic epithelium in the adult boar, a method has been developed to prepare seminiferous tubules mounted as a whole, after which these tubules have been processed and studied as described previously only for rats, mice and hamsters.

Meta‐GWAS of Pig Semen Quality Traits Reveals Conserved Genes Regulating Mammalian Fertility

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
This study incorporated 14 210 individuals to perform a GWAS meta‐analysis of six semen quality traits. The GWAS meta‐analysis identifies 234 GWAS loci associated with semen quality traits. The incorporation with a functional genomics resource explains potential genetic regulation of ∼40% GWAS signals underlying semen quality traits.

Authentication of Sumateran Wild Boar (Sus scrofa vittatus) Meat Contamination by Polymerase Chain Reaction Restriction Fragment Length Polymorphism (PCR-RFLP) Technique of Cytochrome b Gene

open access: yesTropical Animal Science Journal, 2018
High population of Sumateran wild boar causes the increasing number of hunting and overflowing of wild boar meat availability in the market at a very low price. This condition leads to the falsification of meat.

Expression Pattern of Seminal Plasma Extracellular Vesicle Small RNAs in Boar Semen

open access: yesFrontiers in Veterinary Science, 2020
Extracellular vesicles (EVs) regulate multiple physiological processes. Seminal plasma contains numerous EVs that may deliver functional molecules such as small RNAs (sRNAs) to the sperm. However, the RNA profiles in the boar seminal plasma extracellular

Digital Point‐of‐Care Testing Device Based on Bioluminescent Pyrophosphate in Real‐Time and Recombinase‐aid Amplification

open access: yesAdvanced Intelligent Systems, EarlyView.
A point‐of‐care testing method based on solvent‐responsive magnetic beads suitable for large‐area diagnosis and mutation screening in remote areas was developed to detect it by combining bioluminescenct pyrophosphate in real‐time technology and recombinase‐aid amplification technology.

Intensive monitoring suggests population oscillations and migration in wild boar Sus scrofa in the Pyrenees [PDF]

open access: yesAnimal Biodiversity and Conservation, 2013
As few studies have analysed local variability in populations of wild boar Sus scrofa in Western Europe in recent years, our understanding of ecological processes currently affecting this species is limited.
