Advances in Boar Semen Cryopreservation [PDF]
The present paper highlights aspects of the cryopreservation of boar semen, a species with particular large, fractionated ejaculates, and a cumbersome cryotechnology that had prevented its commercial application. With the dramatic increase of use of liquid pig semen for artificial breeding over the past decade, developments on cryopreservation ...

Semen characteristics of the three genetic types of boars reared in Benin
Objective: To characterize the semen of three genetic types of boars (local, improved and Large White) reared in Benin. Methods: Semen of local, improved and Large White boars reared in Benin were collected using the gloved hand method and analyzed to ...

Recent advances in boar semen cryopreservation [PDF]
Since 35 years ago boar semen has been frozen and used for artificial insemination (AI). However, fertility of cryopreserved porcine sperm has consistently been low as boar sperm are more sensitive to cellular stress imposed by changing osmotic balance, oxidative stress, low-temperature exposure, cryo-protectant intoxication etc.

Colloid Centrifugation of Boar Semen [PDF]
ContentsColloid centrifugation of boar semen has been reported sporadically for at least the last two decades, beginning with density gradient centrifugation (DGC) and progressing more recently to single layer centrifugation (SLC). Single layer centrifugation through a species‐specific colloid has been shown to be effective in selecting the best ...

Boar management and semen handling factors affect the quality of boar extended semen [PDF]
Artificial insemination (AI) is the preferred method for reproduction in the majority of the intensive pig production systems Worldwide. To this end, fresh extended ready-to-use semen doses are either purchased from AI-centres or produced by boars kept on-farm.

Fertility of Frozen-Thawed Boar Semen [PDF]
Farrowing results of six fertility tests are presented. Semen was processed by removal of seminal plasma and addition of glycerol at 30°C before (method A) or after (method B) stepwise cooling to 5°C, and by the Beltsville method (C). Sperm concentrations at freezing were 0·9 x 109/ml (A and B) and 0·6x 109/ml (C).

Pig Spermatozoa Defect in Acrosome Formation Caused Poor Motion Parameters and Fertilization Failure through Artificial Insemination and Fertilization [PDF]
The selection of morphologically normal spermatozoa is critical to obtain high breeding performances in boar breeding farms and artificial insemination (AI) centers. Parameters for the selection of semen mainly include total sperm motility, concentration,

Antimicrobial Resistance as a Problem for the Quality of Boar Semen
The aim of the study was to determine whether the bacteria from the environment and from the mucous membrane of the boar prepuce have antimicrobial resistance and whether the result obtained is similar/same to the bacteria that can be found in native ...
