Sperm quality improvement of cryopreserved boar semen through colloidal centrifugation gradient

open access: yesCzech Journal of Animal Science
Boar semen cryopreservation is limited due to the lower thermal shock resistance of sperm cells. A colloidal centrifugation gradient is an enhancement to cryopreservation that could improve the frozen boar semen quality.

Cryopreservation of boar semen [PDF]

open access: yes, 2000
The world’s pig population is consistently being upgraded through the international trade of superior genetics. The two major systems that are used for this purpose are the transport of live animals and the export of frozen boar semen. The main limiting factors for a wider use of frozen-thawed (FT) boar semen are low fertility levels of FT in ...

An Outbreak of Porcine Reproductive and Respiratory Syndrome Virus (PRRSV) in a German Boar Stud: A Retrospective Analysis of PRRSV Shedding in Boar Semen [PDF]

open access: yesVeterinary Sciences
The porcine reproductive and respiratory syndrome virus (PRRSV) causes high economical costs due to reduced productivity and losses in pig production. The virus can infect sow herds through various routes.

Recent development in freezing strategies of pig semen-A review

open access: yesIndian Journal of Animal Sciences, 2022
Of late studies on frozen thawed boar semen have dramatically improved boar semen cryopreservation technique, albeit the commercial application of cryopreserved boar semen has not yet been popular. Some studies claimed successful fertility/ fertilization

Post-Thaw Storage Temperature Influenced Boar Sperm Quality and Lifespan through Apoptosis and Lipid Peroxidation

open access: yesAnimals, 2023
Cryopreservation deteriorates boar sperm quality and lifespan, which restricts the use of artificial insemination with frozen-thawed boar semen in field conditions.

Semen characteristics of the three genetic types of boars reared in Benin

open access: yesAsian Pacific Journal of Reproduction, 2021
Objective: To characterize the semen of three genetic types of boars (local, improved and Large White) reared in Benin. Methods: Semen of local, improved and Large White boars reared in Benin were collected using the gloved hand method and analyzed to ...

Colloid Centrifugation of Boar Semen [PDF]

open access: yesReproduction in Domestic Animals, 2011
ContentsColloid centrifugation of boar semen has been reported sporadically for at least the last two decades, beginning with density gradient centrifugation (DGC) and progressing more recently to single layer centrifugation (SLC). Single layer centrifugation through a species‐specific colloid has been shown to be effective in selecting the best ...

Recent advances in boar semen cryopreservation [PDF]

open access: yesBioscientifica Proceedings, 2020
Since 35 years ago boar semen has been frozen and used for artificial insemination (AI). However, fertility of cryopreserved porcine sperm has consistently been low as boar sperm are more sensitive to cellular stress imposed by changing osmotic balance, oxidative stress, low-temperature exposure, cryo-protectant intoxication etc.

Investigation of the Efficacy of Dithiothreitol and Glutathione on In Vitro Fertilization of Cryopreserved Large White Boar Semen

open access: yesAnimals, 2022
The objectives of this study were to evaluate the properties of sperm motility and morphology under induced oxidative stress, compare the antioxidant capacity of dithiothreitol (DTT) and glutathione (GSH) following the cryopreservation of Large White ...

Pig Spermatozoa Defect in Acrosome Formation Caused Poor Motion Parameters and Fertilization Failure through Artificial Insemination and Fertilization [PDF]

open access: yesAsian-Australasian Journal of Animal Sciences, 2014
The selection of morphologically normal spermatozoa is critical to obtain high breeding performances in boar breeding farms and artificial insemination (AI) centers. Parameters for the selection of semen mainly include total sperm motility, concentration,
