Haemoproteus lophortyx Infection in Bobwhite Quail
Avian Diseases, 2002This report chronicles recurring outbreaks of Haemoproteus lophortyx infection in captive bobwhite quail. Clinically, the signs of infection included reluctance to move, ruffled appearance, prostration, and death. These signs were associated with parasitemia, anemia, and the presence of large megaloschizonts in skeletal muscles, particularly those of ...

Effects of bobwhite calls and repeated testing on tonic, defensive, immobility of bobwhite quail
Behavioral Biology, 1975Chase, capture, and restraint of Bobwhite quail (Colinus virginianus) typically lead birds to become immobile. In the first experiment time to capture a bird (chase time), duration of immobility, and rate of respiration during immobility were measured on two successive tests. Chase time was significantly related to duration of immobility.

Factors influencing Northern Bobwhite recruitment, with implications for population growth
The AUK: A Quarterly Journal of Ornithology, 2018Understanding and quantifying demographic parameters that influence population growth is necessary to effectively maintain population persistence in the presence of recent changes in climate and land use.

Viability of Northern Bobwhite Populations
The Journal of Wildlife Management, 2000Quail populations are declining in North America. Hence, we modeled tlle \lability of northern bobwhite (Colit~rrsvirgininnus) populations subject to ~veathercatastrophes and harvest to help focus manage- ment and research efforts to reverse the decline.

Bobwhite Mobility in Central Missouri
The Journal of Wildlife Management, 1952The early studies of bobwhite quail mobility in the Southeast by Stoddard (1931) and in Wisconsin by Errington (1933) led to the view that the species is quite sedentary, at least in those regions. This view was held by Leopold (1933) who summarized the earlier findings, stating that probably the bobwhite is the least mobile species of American game ...
