Atypical Histomoniasis in Bobwhite Quail
Avian Diseases, 1980An outbreak of histomonad infection of an apparent atypical nature was diagnosed in a flock of about 850 Bobwhite quail. Mortality was 95% over a 3-week period. The most prominent gross pathologic lesions were in the livers: disseminated white foci of necrosis, 1 to 2 mm in diameter, and subcapsular multifocal splenic necrosis was seen occasionally ...

Haemoproteus lophortyx Infection in Bobwhite Quail
Avian Diseases, 2002This report chronicles recurring outbreaks of Haemoproteus lophortyx infection in captive bobwhite quail. Clinically, the signs of infection included reluctance to move, ruffled appearance, prostration, and death. These signs were associated with parasitemia, anemia, and the presence of large megaloschizonts in skeletal muscles, particularly those of ...

SUMMARY Slit-lamp biomicroscopy was used to characterize the clinical progression of naturally occurring cataracts in Bobwhite quail at 3, 4, 7, 10, and 13 months and at 2, 3, and 4 years of age. Four clinical grades of cataracts that were identified varied from minute focal opacities to complete opacification of the lens.

Paralysis of Undetermined Origin in Bobwhite Quail
Avian Diseases, 1993Paralysis of undetermined etiology occurred in a group of pen-reared bobwhite quail. Other than severe dehydration, no gross or microscopic lesions were observed, and the cause was not identified. Fumonisin B1 was detected in the feed at 17.7 ppm. In an attempt to reproduce the condition, a feeding trial was conducted utilizing the suspect feed.

QUALITATIVE ANALYSIS OF BOBWHITE QUAIL POPULATION MODEL
Acta Mathematica Scientia, 2003The general form of bobwhite quail population model can be written as \[ x_{n+1}=ax_n+\frac{bx_n}{( 1+x_{n-k}^p) ^c},\quad n=0,1,\dots ,\tag{*} \] where ...

Experimental Toxoplasmosis in Bobwhite Quail (Colinus virginianus)
The Journal of Parasitology, 1993Twenty-four 3-5-mo-old battery-hatched bobwhite quail were inoculated orally with 10(5) (ME 49 strain, group A, 6 birds), 10(4) (ME 49 strain, group B, 6 birds), 10(5) (GT-1 strain, group C, 6 birds), and 10(4) (GT-1 strain, group D, 6 birds) Toxoplasma gondii oocysts.

Sound localization in Bobwhite quail (Colinus virginianus)
Behavioral Biology, 1978Bobwhites ( Colinus virginianus ) sound localization was tested using a minimal audible angle paradigm. Two quail each were tested using either a 1- or 2-kHz tone or a white-noise stimulus. Then, one from each condition was retested using one of the other stimuli. Localization: (1) was most accurate to the white-noise and 2-kHz stimuli, (2) below 120°,

Auto-shaping in bobwhite quail.
Journal of the experimental analysis of behavior, 2010Bobwhite quail were given extended auto-shaping, a procedure in which response-key illumination or color change is paired with response-independent food presentations. Continuation of the auto-shaping procedure yielded increased responding across sessions, although responses were never instrumental in producing food.

Gastrointestinal Helminth Communities of Bobwhite Quail
Ecology, 1990We found 12 species of intestinal helminths in 158 Northern Bobwhites (Colinus virginianus) in northern Florida (1983—1984). Of these, six species were common: the cestodes Raillietina cesticillus and R. colinia, the cecal nematodes Heterakis isolonche and Trichostrongylus tenuis, the proventricular nematode Dispharynx nasuta, and the gizzard nematode ...
