A novel bocavirus associated with acute gastroenteritis in Australian children. [PDF]

open access: yesPLoS Pathogens, 2009
Acute gastroenteritis (AGE) is a common illness affecting all age groups worldwide, causing an estimated three million deaths annually. Viruses such as rotavirus, adenovirus, and caliciviruses are a major cause of AGE, but in many patients a causal agent

Human Bocavirus in Children

open access: yesEmerging Infectious Diseases, 2006
To the Editor: Respiratory tract infection is a major cause of illness in children. Despite the availability of sensitive diagnostic methods, detecting infectious agents is difficult in a substantial proportion of respiratory samples from children with respiratory tract disease (1).

A Novel Case of Multisystem Inflammatory Syndrome in Children Associated With Influenza

open access: yesClinical Case Reports, Volume 13, Issue 9, September 2025.
ABSTRACT It is critical to consider MIS‐C diagnosis following viral infections in the pediatric population, especially when symptoms cannot be fully explained by other conditions.

The Etiopathogenesis of Kawasaki Disease: Evolving Understanding of Diverse Triggers

open access: yesImmunity, Inflammation and Disease, Volume 13, Issue 9, September 2025.
ABSTRACT Background Kawasaki disease (KD) is a leading cause of acquired heart disease in children. Evidence suggests that microbial and nonmicrobial triggers for KD differ across geographical regions and environmental conditions. Although the precise triggers remain unidentified, KD is likely caused by microbial or environmental agents acting on ...

Co-detection of bocavirus and bacteria in a respiratory specimen from a pregnant woman using multiplex real time PCR; a pathogenic role, or a bystander?

open access: yesIranian Journal of Microbiology, 2020
A pregnant woman presented by cough and dyspenia. Employing a respiratory multiplex real-time PCR, Human bocavirus (HBoV), Haemophilus influenza and Staphylococcus aureus were positive at cycle thresholds (CTs) of 21, 35 and 33.5, respectively.

Unveiling Origin Pitfalls in Metagenomic Surveillance for Emerging Infectious Diseases: Parvoviruses as a Model

open access: yesiMetaMed, Volume 1, Issue 1, September 2025.
A diverse reagent‐associated virome, including parvoviruses, misleads zoonotic surveillance. By leveraging large language models (ChatGPT‐4o), we construct a virus discovery data framework (PVDDC) and ParvoDB to access and correct host misattributions, thereby enhancing the accuracy of metagenomic surveillance for emerging zoonotic diseases.

Monitoring SARS‐CoV‐2 Dissemination in Wastewater and Virus Isolation in Cell Cultures: An Integrated Approach for Pathogen Detection and Surveillance

open access: yesJournal of Cellular and Molecular Medicine, Volume 29, Issue 17, September 2025.
ABSTRACT Our study presents wastewater (WW) monitoring data, focusing on determining the infectivity of SARS‐CoV‐2 in the collected samples. Additionally, a panel of different viruses has been tested in the WW samples. The untreated WW monitoring campaign took place over 1 year in Bucharest, with approximately 300 samples being collected twice a week ...

Life-Threatening Conditions in Children with Bocavirus Infection-Case Series and Mini Review of the Literature

open access: yesViruses
In this study, we present four cases of Human Bocavirus (HBoV) infection in children aged between 1 month and 4 years. Among these cases, two siblings were hospitalized with similar symptoms. Among the four pediatric cases of patients with HBoV infection,

Case Report: Hematopoietic Stem Cell Transplantation to Treat Severe Acquired Aplastic Anemia in a Pediatric Kidney Transplant Recipient

open access: yesPediatric Transplantation, Volume 29, Issue 5, August 2025.
ABSTRACT Background Hematopoietic stem cell transplantation (HSCT) in solid organ transplant recipients has been reported in adults. However, data on children are scarce. We report a case of an allogeneic HSCT in a 14‐year‐old girl to treat idiopathic very severe aplastic anemia (SAA). Case Presentation The girl developed end‐stage renal disease at the

Prevalence and significance of a canine bocavirus-2 outbreak in a cohort of military dogs in Austria

open access: yesFrontiers in Veterinary Science
IntroductionBocaviruses are single-stranded DNA viruses from the Parvoviridae family, which have been minimally discussed in veterinary literature and are considered potentially pathogenic. Due to the recurring illness among young dogs in a closed cohort
