The VHL tumor suppressor at the crossroad of protein folding, aggregation, and cancer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Mutations, environmental stress, and chaperone dysfunction can destabilize pVHL, promoting its conversion from the native folded state into amyloid‐like assemblies. This transition may contribute to protein storage, cell dormancy, survival, and drug resistance.

Regulation of the lncRNA NEAT1 by p53‐ΔNp63 crosstalk modulates the DNA damage response and therapeutic efficacy in HNSCC

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
In head and neck squamous cell carcinoma (HNSCC) p53 and p63 exert opposite roles on the transcription regulation of the lncRNA NEAT1. Under basal conditions, p53 levels are low and p63 represses NEAT1 expression. Upon genotoxic stress, p53 is rapidly induced, displacing p63 from the NEAT1 promoter leading to NEAT1 transcriptional activation and ...

Targeting the EpCAM‐AXL axis to overcome drug resistance in lung cancer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Lung cancer cells often evade therapy by hijacking signaling pathways. We reveal that cleaved EpCAM (sEpCAM) stabilizes the oncogenic protein AXL, driving NF‐κB and STAT3‐mediated chemoresistance. This EpCAM‐AXL axis identifies a high‐risk patient subset with poor prognosis.

Characterization of therapeutic antibodies targeting lymphatic and vascular resistance factor for the treatment of hypervascularized and highly metastatic cancers

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
LVRF (lymphatic and vascular resistance factor) is a VEGFA splice variant upregulated in response to anti‐angiogenic therapy that fosters tumor adaptation through enhanced vascularization, lymphangiogenesis, and metastatic dissemination. Targeting LVRF with fully human neutralizing antibodies disrupts these processes and limits resistant tumor growth ...

Training with and without a cane under visual deprivation: Effects on body schema and perceived reachability in young and older adults

open access: yesActa Psychologica
Tool use can modify body-related representations, but it remains unclear whether such changes are specific to the limb using the tool, whether they generalize to other body parts, and whether their expression differs across healthy aging under visual ...

Small RNA pathways in mammalian oocytes

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Three distinct small RNA pathways operate in mammalian oocytes: RNAi interference (RNAi), the microRNA (miRNA) pathway, and the PIWI‐associated RNA (piRNA) pathway. These pathways use small RNAs to guide sequence‐specific repression and contribute to oocyte biology by targeting genes and mobile elements or appear insignificant since different ...

The concept of a model of plastic bodily image in architecture

open access: yesMATEC Web of Conferences, 2017
One of the key problems of architectural mastery is lack of acute feeling of the plastic image and bodily self-determination of an architectural object at the initial (and the subsequent) stage when the design model author is trying to see and understand

Hyperactive ice‐binding proteins stabilize cell membranes and improve resistance to dehydration stress in Caenorhabditis elegans

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
TisIBP8, a fungal‐derived hyperactive ice‐binding protein, helps Caenorhabditis elegans survive dehydration. It localizes near cell membranes, reduces cell damage, and helps maintain membrane structure during drying. These results suggest that ice‐binding proteins can protect cells from dehydration stress as well as freezing stress.

Understanding human co-manipulation via motion and haptic information to enable future physical human-robotic collaborations

open access: yesFrontiers in Neurorobotics
Human teams intuitively and effectively collaborate to move large, heavy, or unwieldy objects. However, understanding of this interaction in literature is limited. This is especially problematic given our goal to enable human-robot teams to work together.

Molecular characterization of covRS mutations in M1UK Streptococcus pyogenes

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Group A Streptococcus (GAS) acquires covRS mutations driving a hypervirulent bacterial state, frequently associated with invasive disease‐like necrotizing fasciitis. We demonstrate that the newly emerged M1UK GAS lineage can also acquire these mutations.
