Multi-BAN Coordination: Centralized Coordination of Body Area Networks [PDF]

open access: yes2024 18th International Symposium on Medical Information and Communication Technology (ISMICT)
The next generation of personal wireless networks will increase the already overcrowded use of the radio spectrum, especially in unlicensed spectrum, where new services will coexist with legacy devices.

Antenna efficiency influence in Body Area Networks (BAN)

open access: yes, 2013
This talk addresses the power issues at the physical layer in Body Area Networks by considering the propagation channel on the human body surface and the antenna characteristics. In particular, the tradeoff between sensor miniaturization and operating frequency will be discussed.

DMASK-BAN: Improving the security of body area networks

Computer Fraud & Security, 2020
Body area networks (BANs) are formed to collect the healthcare data of a person for diagnosis and the provision of treatments. The prime motive of body area network devices is to collect and communicate legacy health-related data. These devices use simple authentication and key generation procedures to provide security with low power consumption and ...

MEMSWear - Biomonitoring System in A Body Area Network (BAN)

2006 International Semiconductor Conference, 2006
MEMSWear is an initiative that takes advantage of MEMS technology and applies it in developing a wearable platform for monitoring of vital signs and other important events such as falls in the elderly. BAN facilitated MEMSWear transmits data wirelessly to designated users, such as doctors, caregivers or family members through Bluetooth-enabled PDAs ...

Live demonstration: Wireless sensors and systems for body area network (BAN)

2012 IEEE Biomedical Circuits and Systems Conference (BioCAS), 2012
There has been an increasing interest on body area network (BAN) because of the increasing need for long-term monitoring of various health parameters, such as EEG and ECG, in health, wellness and medical applications, and also from the technology advances that make low power sensor systems and miniaturization available for portable use.

Modeling and Design of Wideband Antennas For Body Area Networks (BANs)

TENCON 2006 - 2006 IEEE Region 10 Conference, 2006
Recently, there has a growing interest in the development and implementation of body area networks. These systems are intended to operate in a similar fashion to wireless land area networks (WLAN) with exception that they are strictly confined to the human body.

On the Correlation of Sensor Location and Human Activity Recognition in Body Area Networks (BANs)

IEEE Systems Journal, 2018
Accurate recognition of patients’ physical activities leads to correct diagnosis and treatments. However, currently deployed approaches are deficient in recognizing the activities requiring frequent interposture transitions, such as jogging, jumping, turning left, and going upstairs.

Compact UWB antennas for Wireless Body Area Networks (W-BANs)

2014 IEEE-APS Topical Conference on Antennas and Propagation in Wireless Communications (APWC), 2014
A major issue in Wireless Body Area Networks (W-BAN) is the reliability of the transmission in all conditions, thus in all locations and positions of the wearer. One way to achieve this is to design communication systems as independent as possible to the presence of the wearer, and to use multiple antennas (diversity, MIMO) to overcome fading ...

Green's function models and measurements for body area network (BAN) channels

2010 IEEE International Conference on Wireless Information Technology and Systems, 2010
This work investigated employing the analytical Green's function for a lossy cylindrical circular scatterer for bodyonly propagation modeling. Measurements were performed in a compact anechoic chamber using non-resonant monopole antennas. Results indicated that although good agreement is seen for 1-directed polarization, model predictions are less ...

A Diamond Cut Leather Substrate Antenna for BAN (Body Area Network) Application

2021
In this chapter, a diamond cut shape antenna has been simulated under CST software using twisting material (i.e., leather). The dielectric constant of leather material is 1.655. For antenna to be twist, leather substrate is used. The return loss of this newly design diamond cut shaped antenna is -35 dB at 5.5467 GHz resonant frequency.
