Body Condition Scoring for Adult Zebrafish (Danio rerio) [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of the American Association for Laboratory Animal Science, 2018
Body condition scoring (BCS) is a simple, rapid, noninvasive tool used to assess body condition in animals. In this study, we developed and validated a diagram-based BCS for adult zebrafish (Danio rerio), a popular research model. After receiving 20 min of hands-on training regarding the scoring system, 5 people each rated 95 adult zebrafish.

Prenatal maternal effects on body condition score, female fertility, and milk yield of dairy cows [PDF]

open access: yes, 2007
In this study, maternal effects were described as age of dam at first and second calving, first-lactation body condition score (BCS) of the dam during gestation, and milk yield of the dam.

Body condition score and live-weight effects on milk production in Irish Holstein-Friesian dairy cows

open access: yes, 2007
peer-reviewedThe objective of the present study was to quantify the relationships among body condition score (BCS; scale 1 to 5), live weight (WT) and milk production in Irish Holstein-Friesian spring calving dairy cows.

Prediction of the relationship between body weight and body condition score in sheep

open access: yesItalian Journal of Animal Science, 2011
During the whole production cycle it is important to monitor the energy balance and to quantify body reserve changes of the ewes. This can be done, both in experimental settings and in the field, by estimating the body condition score (BCS) of the ewes ...

Genetic evaluation of fertility using direct and correlated traits [PDF]

open access: yes, 2003
Poor fertility has become a major reason for involuntary culling of dairy cows in the United Kingdom. Calving interval (CI) and body condition score (BCS) are recorded, heritable, genetically correlated with each other, and could be used to extend the ...

Effect of Nutrition on the Morphometric Markers in Spayed Dogs

open access: yesFolia Veterinaria, 2021
Obesity and overweight have been frequently observed in dogs in recent years as in humans. The compositions of fatty acids in the accumulated lipids in tissues of obese animals may have important roles in the process and mechanisms related to the onset ...

Age and Body Condition Score and Diets of Grazing Goats [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Range Management, 2004
Abstract Diet selection by juvenile and adult non-pregnant, non-lactating goats and the diets of adult non-productive goats with low (≤ 1.5; grading scale 0–5) and moderate (≥ 2.5) body condition score (BCS) are described by microhistological analysis of fecal samples for a Chihuahuan desert vegetation in northern Mexico.

A note on the estimation of the body fat, protein and energy content of lactating Holstein-Friesian cows by measurement of condition score and live weight [PDF]

open access: yes, 1993
The relationships between body composition, live weight (LW) and subjective condition score (CS) were examined in an experiment in which 54, second to fourth parity, lactating autumn-calving Holstein-Friesian dairy cows were slaughtered at 0, 2, 5, 8, 11,

Body Measurements and Body Condition Scoring in Bactrian Camels

open access: yesAnimals
Body measurements were used regularly to describe phenotypes or the weight of the animal. However, few data described the age effect on the different measurements. In the present paper, 477 Bactrian camels (7-180 months old) were measured, and their growth was modelized by using Beta-Growth equation.
