Biology and genetics of human head and body lice
Trends in Parasitology, 2012Head lice and body lice have distinct ecologies and differ slightly in morphology and biology, questioning their taxonomic status. Over the past 10 years many genetic studies have been undertaken. Controversial data suggest that not only body lice but also head lice can serve as vectors of Bartonella quintana, and a better understanding of louse ...

DDT Resistance in Egyptian Body Lice
The American Journal of Tropical Medicine and Hygiene, 1954Summary 1. The average mortality for adult Egyptian body lice from the vicinity of Cairo when exposed to DDT powder for 24 hours was 31 per cent for one tenth per cent DDT, 70 per cent for one per cent DDT, and 89 per cent for ten per cent DDT, giving an LD50 of 0.33 per cent.

Unravelling the evolution of the head lice and body lice of humans
Parasitology Research, 2005Recent studies of mitochondrial genes of the head and body lice of humans indicate that present-day lice comprise two lineages that diverged before the evolution of modern humans. To test if this was a locus-specific phenomenon, we studied two nuclear genes, elongation factor-1alpha (EF-1alpha) and small subunit ribosomal RNA (ssu rRNA).

EXPERIMENTAL INFECTION OF HUMAN BODY LICE WITH ACINETOBACTER BAUMANNII
The American Journal of Tropical Medicine and Hygiene, 2006The human body louse is currently recognized as a vector of Rickettsia prowazekii, Borrelia recurrentis, and Bartonella quintana. Previous studies have reported the isolation of Acinetobacter baumannii from the body lice of homeless patients. To study how the body louse acquires A.
