Morse index and bifurcation for figure-eight choreographies of the equal mass three-body problem [PDF]

open access: yesJ. Phys. A: Math. Theor. 52 185201 (2019), 2019
We report on the Morse index and periodic solutions bifurcating from the figure-eight choreography for the equal mass three-body problem under homogeneous potential $-1/r^a$ for $a \ge 0$, and under Lennard-Jones (LJ) type potential $1/r^{12}-1/r^6$, where $r$ is a distance between bodies. It is shown that the Morse index changes at a bifurcation point

Meta-analysis of genome-wide association studies for height and body mass index in ∼700,000 individuals of European ancestry

open access: yesbioRxiv, 2018
Genome-wide association studies (GWAS) stand as powerful experimental designs for identifying DNA variants associated with complex traits and diseases. In the past decade, both the number of such studies and their sample sizes have increased dramatically.

Body-mass index and mortality in a prospective cohort of U.S. adults.

open access: yesNew England Journal of Medicine, 1999
BACKGROUND Body-mass index (the weight in kilograms divided by the square of the height in meters) is known to be associated with overall mortality. We investigated the effects of age, race, sex, smoking status, and history of disease on the relation ...

Body Mass Index and Employment-Based Health Insurance

open access: yesBMC Health Services Research, 2008
Background Obese workers incur greater health care costs than normal weight workers. Possibly viewed by employers as an increased financial risk, they may be at a disadvantage in procuring employment that provides health insurance.

Body mass index in HER2-negative metastatic breast cancer treated with first-line paclitaxel and bevacizumab [PDF]

open access: yes, 2018
The evidence emerged from the TOURANDOT trial encourages evaluating the role of anthropometric determinants on treatment outcomes in HER2-negative metastatic breast cancer patients treated with bevacizumab-including regimens. We thus analyzed data from a

Perceptions of body weight that vary by body mass index: Clear associations with perceptions based on personal control and responsibility. [PDF]

open access: yes, 2020
This project aimed to identify the perceptions of body weight that vary by body mass index. First, a qualitative study explored body weight perceptions in 17 individuals with overweight.

Body mass index percentiles versus body composition assessments: Challenges for disease risk classifications in children

open access: yesFrontiers in Pediatrics, 2023
BackgroundIdentifying at-risk children with optimal specificity and sensitivity to allow for the appropriate intervention strategies to be implemented is crucial to improving the health and well-being of children. We determined relationships of body mass

Intergenerational change and familial aggregation of body mass index [PDF]

open access: yes, 2011
The relationship between parental BMI and that of their adult offspring, when increased adiposity can become a clinical issue, is unknown. We investigated the intergenerational change in body mass index (BMI) distribution, and examined the sex-specific ...

Estimation of the marginal effect of antidepressants on body mass index under confounding and endogenous covariate-driven monitoring times [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2021
In studying the marginal effect of antidepressants on body mass index using electronic health records data, we face several challenges. Patients' characteristics can affect the exposure (confounding) as well as the timing of routine visits (measurement process), and those characteristics may be altered following a visit which can create dependencies ...

Association of Body Mass Index With Lifetime Risk of Cardiovascular Disease and Compression of Morbidity

open access: yesJAMA cardiology, 2018
Importance Prior studies have demonstrated lower all-cause mortality in individuals who are overweight compared with those with normal body mass index (BMI), but whether this may come at the cost of greater burden of cardiovascular disease (CVD) is ...
