On a Measure of Asymmetry of Convex Bodies

open access: yesMathematical Proceedings of the Cambridge Philosophical Society, 1962
In the present note we discuss some properties of a ‘measure of asymmetry’ of convex bodies in n-dimensional Euclidean space. Various measures of asymmetry have been treated in the literature (see, for example, (1), (6); references to most of the relevant results may be found in (4)).

The human gut microbiome across the life course

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Despite significant individual variation and continuous change throughout life, the human gut microbiome follows some life stage‐specific trends. This article provides a brief overview of how gut microbiome composition shifts across different phases of life. Created in BioRender. Özkurt, E. (2026) https://BioRender.com/8q4nrnc.

Conditioning of the Achilles tendon via ankle exercise improves correlations between sonographic measures of tendon thickness and body anthropometry

open access: yes, 2011
Although conditioning is routinely used in mechanical tests of tendon in vitro, previous in vivo research evaluating the influence of body anthropometry on Achilles tendon thickness has not considered its potential effects on tendon structure. This study

Biomechanical measures from using smart body-wear sensors for gait analysis [PDF]

open access: yes, 2021
There has been remarkable growth in the use of smartphone applications as a means of describing human movement. Accelerometer sensors in smartphones can be used to detect human movements and define gait characteristics. Photogrammetry approaches are used

The accuracy of parent-reported height and weight for 6–12 year old U.S. children

open access: yesBMC Pediatrics, 2018
Background Previous studies have examined correlations between BMI calculated using parent-reported and directly-measured child height and weight. The objective of this study was to validate correction factors for parent-reported child measurements ...

Degradation mechanism of the von Willebrand factor A2 domain by nattokinase

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Nattokinase, a natto‐derived protease, exhibits potent antithrombotic effects. This study demonstrates that nattokinase directly cleaves the von Willebrand factor (vWF) A2 domain in vitro. Unlike the native regulator ADAMTS13, nattokinase degrades folded vWF independently of shear stress.

From mice to humans—divergent strategies for intestinal homeostasis and regeneration

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Recent advances such as organoid genome editing, xenotransplantation, imaging, and whole‐genome sequencing have enabled direct studies of human intestinal stem cells (ISCs). These studies reveal species‐specific features, including slower ISC proliferation, distinct injury responses, slower somatic mutation accumulation in humans, and an inverse ...
