Prognosis of Long‐Term Continuous Renal Replacement Therapy and the Impact of Combined Continuous Intravenous Sodium Infusion Therapy

open access: yesTherapeutic Apheresis and Dialysis, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Introduction Patients requiring long‐term continuous renal replacement therapy (CRRT) generally have poor prognoses. This study evaluated whether adding continuous intravenous sodium infusion (cIVNa) is associated with improved hemodynamics and outcomes in patients undergoing long‐term CRRT for ≥ 7 days.

Method for Measurement of Body Image

open access: yesJournal of Robotics and Mechatronics, 1996
The method for the measurement of a body image by a video processing system was developed. Body images were compared between 10 normal university female students (aged 19-24) and 11 female anorexia nervosa patients (aged 20-30). The patient group was more interested in their body images, and the distortion of body images for the patient group was very ...

Enteropathogenic E. coli shows delayed attachment and host response in human jejunum organoid‐derived monolayers compared to HeLa cells

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Enteropathogenic E. coli (EPEC) infects the human intestinal epithelium, resulting in severe illness and diarrhoea. In this study, we compared the infection of cancer‐derived cell lines with human organoid‐derived models of the small intestine. We observed a delayed in attachment, inflammation and cell death on primary cells, indicating that host ...

Adiposity, adipokines, and risk of incident stroke in older men [PDF]

open access: yes, 2013
<p>Background and Purpose—The association between adiposity and adipocytes and risk of stroke in older adults is uncertain. We have examined the association between adiposity measures and adipocytes (adiponectin and leptin) with incident stroke ...

Non-linear associations and threshold effects of BRI, CI, and WHtR with grip strength in U. S. adults aged ≥20 years: a cross-sectional study

open access: yesFrontiers in Nutrition
BackgroundMuscle strength is strongly associated with various physiological functions and health risks, with grip strength serving as a key indicator for its assessment. Currently, the relationship between novel obesity indices [Body Roundness Index (BRI)

Regional body composition in college-aged Caucasians from anthropometric measures

open access: yesNutrition & Metabolism, 2007
Background Quantitating fat and lean tissue in isolated body regions may be helpful or required in obesity and health-outcomes research. However, current methods of regional body composition measurement require specialized, expensive equipment such as ...

Spatiotemporal and quantitative analyses of phosphoinositides – fluorescent probe—and mass spectrometry‐based approaches

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Fluorescent probes allow dynamic visualization of phosphoinositides in living cells (left), whereas mass spectrometry provides high‐sensitivity, isomer‐resolved quantitation (right). Their synergistic use captures complementary aspects of lipid signaling. This review illustrates how these approaches reveal the spatiotemporal regulation and quantitative

Phosphatidylinositol 4‐kinase as a target of pathogens—friend or foe?

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
This graphical summary illustrates the roles of phosphatidylinositol 4‐kinases (PI4Ks). PI4Ks regulate key cellular processes and can be hijacked by pathogens, such as viruses, bacteria and parasites, to support their intracellular replication. Their dual role as essential host enzymes and pathogen cofactors makes them promising drug targets.

The effects of media exposure on body dissatisfaction and cognitive bias in adolescent girls and boys [PDF]

open access: yes, 2010
The transmission of information by the media about the ideal body has been highlighted as a cause of body image problems. Exposure to such information is hypothesised to increase appearance-related cognitive bias and body dissatisfaction.
