Take a deeper look into body surface area

Nursing, 2019
Abstract: This article reviews the method of measure known as body surface area (BSA) and discusses when and why BSA calculations are used. Techniques for BSA calculation are also described.

On surface area measures of convex bodies

Geometriae Dedicata, 1980
The set Lj of jth-order surface area measures of convex bodies in d-space is well known for j=d−1. A characterization of Lj was obtained by Firey and Berg. The determination of Lj, for j∈{2, ..., d−2}, is an open problem. Here we show some properties of Lj concerning convexity, closeness, and size.

Measuring the Surface Area of a Convex Body

The Annals of Mathematics, 1944
In applied sciences it is sometimes desirable to measure the surface area of a small body. It is difficult to do this directly, but if the body is convex we may use a well-known theorem on convex bodies. If K is such a body in threedimensional space, let S be its surface area, A (n) the area of its projection on a plane perpendicular to the vector n ...

Estimated Body Surface Area (BSA)

1989
Estimate of body surface area are commonly used in clinical medicine for a variety of applications, including the calculation of chemotherapeutic drug dosages in cancer therapy, the determination of the dosage of some drugs used in pediatrics, the indexing of hemodynamic parameters (eg, stroke volume index = stroke volume/body surface area in square ...
