Geographic patterns of microsatellite variation inBoechera stricta, a close relative ofArabidopsis

Molecular Ecology, 2005
AbstractThe genusBoecherais a widespread North American group with great potential for studies of ecology and evolution:Boecherais closely related toArabidopsisand exhibits different ecological and reproductive strategies.Boechera stricta(previouslyArabis drummondii) is a morphologically and genetically well‐defined, perennial crucifer species. Fifteen

Plasticity in functional traits in the context of climate change: a case study of the subalpine forb Boechera stricta (Brassicaceae)

Global Change Biology, 2014
AbstractEnvironmental variation often induces shifts in functional traits, yet we know little about whether plasticity will reduce extinction risks under climate change. As climate change proceeds, phenotypic plasticity could enable species with limited dispersal capacity to persist in situ, and migrating populations of other species to establish in ...

Natural variation in circadian period is associated with diverse phenological measures in Boechera stricta

Annals of Botany
Abstract Background and Aims The circadian clock is a time-keeping mechanism that detects and responds to temporal environmental changes. Despite functional hypotheses of circadian resonance, in which the match between endogeneous circadian rhythms and exogenous environmental cycles is presumed

Natural variation in circadian period correlates with diverse phenological measures in Boechera stricta

The circadian clock is a time-keeping mechanism that enables adaptive responses to temporal environmental changes. Circadian period exhibits significant segregating genetic variation within and among populations along an elevational cline, potentially resulting from variable selection across microsites on outputs of the circadian clock.

Gene expression differentiation is consistent with local adaptation across an elevational gradient in Drummond’s rockcress ( Boechera stricta )

Journal of Heredity
Abstract A central goal of evolutionary biology is to understand the mechanisms conferring adaptation. Gene expression is sensitive to environmental variability; thus, investigating gene expression differentiation among populations may reveal signatures of selection from predictable environmental conditions.
