Intersexuality in Boeckella Triarticulata (Thomson, 1883) (Copepoda, Calanoida): a trap for unwary taxonomists

Crustaceana, 2008
Copepod systematists should be careful not to attribute taxonomic significance to teratological structures. Given that only a minute fraction of copepod populations is subjected to microscopic examination, and that several workers have encountered intersexual individuals, intersexuality is not an extremely rare phenomenon.

Variations in the embryonic development times and hatching success of three Boeckella species (Copepoda: Calanoida)

Hydrobiologia, 1988
Embryonic development times of Boeckella triarticulata, B. dilatata and B. hamata are compared. Two species, B. triarticulata and B. hamata had widely varying embryonic development times. Variable development times often resulted in greater hatching success.
