Life History Consequences of Food Quality in the Freshwater Copepod Boeckella triarticulata
Food quality often has profound effects on life history traits and individual fitness, altering rates of growth and development, changing the timing of reproduction, and shifting the trade-off between egg size and egg number. Few data are available on the effects of food quality on copepod life history traits. We measured several life history traits on

Experimental hybridization of alpine and lowland forms of Boeckella dilatata, a calanoid copepod [PDF]
The freshwater calanoid copepod Boeckella dilatata Sars inhabits lakes and ponds of glacial origin in central and southern South Island, New Zealand. In lowland lakes and ponds, this copepod is small and transparent while in alpine bodies of water, it is larger and bright red.

The available data on the localities (including new localities) of the calanoid copepod Boeckella poppei on the Livingston Island, Maritime Antarctic, are summarised. The results suggest a substantial expansion in the distribution of the species, likely owing to recent climate change and the resulting freeing from permanent ice or snow of additional ...
