The role of surface hydroxyls on the radiolysis of gibbsite and boehmite nanoplatelets.

open access: yesJournal of Hazardous Materials, 2020
Understanding mechanistic pathways to radiolytic hydrogen generation by metal oxyhydroxide nanomaterials is challenging because of the difficulties of distinguishing key locations of OH bond scission, from structural interiors to hydroxylated surfaces to

Effect of Silica Particle Size and Primary Foaming Intensity on Rhenium Retention During High‐Level Waste Glass Melting

open access: yesJournal of the American Ceramic Society, Volume 109, Issue 3, March 2026.
The effect of silica particle size and primary foaming on rhenium (Re) retention was investigated in a simulated high‐level waste melter feed. Despite increased primary foaming, finer silica particles enhanced Re retention due to faster dissolution and higher viscosity of the transient glass‐forming melt.

Use of Hydration Inhibitors to Improve Bond Durability of Aluminum Adhesive Joints [PDF]

open access: yes, 1985
An investigation is conducted of the mechanisms by which nitrilotris methylene phosphonic acid (NTMP) and related compounds are adsorbed onto oxidized aluminum surfaces to inhibit hydration and increase the durability of adhesive bonds formed with ...

Cold Sintering of Calcite: A Low‐Temperature Method for the Fabrication of Artificial Marble

open access: yesJournal of the American Ceramic Society, Volume 109, Issue 3, March 2026.
Comparison of the hardness of cold and conventionally sintered calcite with artificial marble. ABSTRACT This study presents a novel approach for the low‐temperature fabrication of dense calcite (CaCO3) without the use of a carbon dioxide (CO2) atmosphere.

First-principles study of dehydration interfaces between diaspore and corundum, gibbsite and boehmite, and boehmite and γ-Al2O3: Energetic stability, interface charge effects, and dehydration defects

open access: yesApplications of Surface Science, 2020
Aluminum hydrate dehydration interfaces were studied using a van der Waals density functional. The interface configurations investigated here as a first exploration of possible interface geometries, were all found to have a reasonable probability of ...
