Boiling crisis dynamics: low gravity experiments at high pressure [PDF]
To understand the boiling crisis mechanism, one can take advantage of the slowing down of boiling at high pressures, in the close vicinity of the liquid-vapor critical point of the given fluid. To preserve conventional bubble geometry, such experiments need to be carried out in low gravity.

Insertion of the FeB cofactor in cNORs lacking metal inserting chaperones
Nitric oxide reductase is an enzyme found in the bacterial denitrification pathway. The NOR active site contains a non‐heme iron, often, but not always inserted with the assistance of chaperones. Here, we study the insertion of FeB in the subfamily of cNORs lacking chaperones and found a putative channel, conserved in the family, perhaps enabling the ...

Bubble spreading during the boiling crisis: modelling and experimenting in microgravity [PDF]
Boiling is a very efficient way to transfer heat from a heater to the liquid carrier. We discuss the boiling crisis, a transition between two regimes of boiling: nucleate and film boiling. The boiling crisis results in a sharp decrease in the heat transfer rate, which can cause a major accident in industrial heat exchangers.

Fuel character effects on the J79 and F101 engine combustion systems [PDF]
The effects of select fuel property variations on two major engine classifications are summarized. Thirteen refined and blended fuels were used which exhibited significant variations in hydrogen content, aromatic type, initial boiling point, final ...

A numerical investigation of the effect of surface wettability on the boiling curve. [PDF]
Surface wettability is recognized as playing an important role in pool boiling and the corresponding heat transfer curve. In this work, a systematic study of pool boiling heat transfer on smooth surfaces of varying wettability (contact angle range of 5° -

High-Speed Imaging of Transition from Fluid Breakup to Phase Explosion in Electric Explosion of Tungsten Wires in Air [PDF]
High-speed visible imaging of sub-microsecond electric explosion of wires at the low specific energy deposition threshold reveals three distinct modes of wire failure as capacitor charge voltage and energy deposition are increased. For 100 micron diameter gold-plated tungsten wires of 2 cm length, deposited energies of 1.9 eV/atom produces a liquid ...

Is CHF triggered by the vapor recoil effect? [PDF]
This paper deals with the triggering mechanism of the boiling crisis, a transition from nucleate to film boiling. We observe the boiling crisis in pool saturated boiling experimentally at nearly critical pressure to take advantage of the slowness of the ...
