Development of Ternary Magnesium Alloys for Laser Powder Bed Fusion: Optimizing Oxide Layer Thickness

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Additive manufacturing of magnesium alloys by laser is difficult because the melting point of the oxide layer is much higher than the evaporation temperature of the metal underneath. Making the oxide layer thinner can solve this problem. Alloying magnesium with strontium makes the oxide layer thinner, especially at 0.5 wt%.

On the relation between azeotropic behavior and minimum / maximum flash point occurrences in binary mixtures of flammable compounds [PDF]

open access: yes, 2017
The flash point temperature and the boiling temperature of a mixture are related by the fact that both can be modeled based on vapor-liquid equilibrium (VLE) of each component. It has been suggested in the literature that there might exist a concomitance

Lattice Boltzmann simulations of the pool boiling curves above horizontal heaters with homogenous and heterogeneous wettability [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2019
A hybrid thermal lattice Boltzmann phase-change model was performed to simulate the pool boiling above a smooth horizontal heater. The effects of homogenous and heterogeneous wettability on entire boiling curves from the onset of nucleate boiling (ONB) to fully developed film boiling were investigated comprehensively.

Combining Structured Data with Domain Knowledge in Battery Materials Research: The Case of Conductive Networks

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
The combination of battery product and characterization ontology (BPCO) and domain knowledge guides hypotheses development and leads to new insights into material–property relationship of battery materials. The use of “intermediate data” is introduced as a concept, and examples are shown on its use to analyze the agglomeration of carbon black and its ...

A Perspective on Powder Metallurgy and Additive Manufacturing of High‐Nitrogen Alloyed Stainless Steels

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
This perspective article explores an innovative powder metallurgical approach to producing high‐nitrogen steels by utilizing a mixture of stainless steel and Si3N4. This mixture undergoes hot isostatic pressing followed by direct quenching. The article also examines adapting this method to laser powder bed fusion (PBF‐LB/M) to overcome nitrogen ...
