A Stabilized Boiling/Evaporation Two-Phase Flow in Microchannels

ASME 2009 Second International Conference on Micro/Nanoscale Heat and Mass Transfer, Volume 2, 2009
The high degree of instability in boiling two-phase flow in parallel microchannels is a widely recognized phenomenon. However, if the maldistribution of flow is eliminated and the generated vapor is discharged smoothly through the careful design of the inlet and outlet plenums, in addition, by using part of each channel as a virtual throttle to depress

Two-Group Relative Velocity in Boiling Two-Phase Flow

Volume 3: Thermal-Hydraulics; Turbines, Generators, and Auxiliaries, 2012
In an effort to improve the prediction of void fraction and heat transfer characteristics in two-phase systems, the two-group interfacial area transport equation has been developed for use with the two-group two-fluid model. In the one-dimensional formulation, a closure relation is required for the group-1 and group-2 area-average local relative ...

Boiling vertical two-phase flow at sub-atmospheric pressures

International Journal of Heat and Mass Transfer, 1998
An experimental set-up for the measurement of steady-state two-phase flow data at sub-atmospheric pressures has been built. It has been used to provide data for boiling water. Void fraction data showed a distinct mass quality dependence but only a weak mass flux dependence. Friction pressure drop was calculated from the measured total pressure drop.

Two Phase Boiling and Flow Instabilities in a Microchannel

ASME 5th International Conference on Nanochannels, Microchannels, and Minichannels, 2007
Boiling in microchannels is a very efficient mode of heat transfer. High heat and mass transfer coefficients are achieved. Evaporation of the liquid meniscus is the main contributor to the high heat fluxes achieved due to phase change at thin liquid films in a microchannel. The microscale hydrodynamic motion and the mechanisms at the immediate vicinity

Two-Phase Flow Boiling in a Microchannel Heat Sink

Micro-Electro-Mechanical Systems (MEMS), 2001
Abstract A micro heat sink comprising 10 microchannels integrated with a local heater and a temperature microsensor array has been fabricated on a silicon wafer using standard micromachining techniques. A glass wafer was anodically bonded to the silicon wafer in order to cap the trapezoidal microchannels, about 14μm in depth and 120μm in

Effect of Liquid Density Differences on Boiling Two-Phase Flow Stability

Journal of Nuclear Science and Technology, 2002
In order to investigate the effect of considering liquid density dependence on local fluid temperature in the thermal-hydraulic stability, a linear stability analysis is performed for a boiling natural circulation loop with an adiabatic riser. Type-I and Type-II instabilities were to investigate according to Fukuda-Kobori's classification.

Flow boiling heat transfer in two-phase micro-channel heat sinks––II. Annular two-phase flow model

International Journal of Heat and Mass Transfer, 2003
This paper is Part II of a two-part study devoted to measurement and prediction of the saturated flow boiling heat transfer coefficient in water-cooled micro-channel heat sinks. Part I discussed the experimental findings from the study, and identified unique aspects of flow boiling in micro-channels such as abrupt transition to the annular flow regime ...

Characteristics of Two-Phase Flow Boiling in Microgap Channel

2013
The current chapter presents the heat transfer and pressure data of three different dimension microgap heat sinks collected during the experimental program. Experimental results are discussed to characterize the two phase flow boiling heat transfer and pressure drop behaviors in microgap channel.
