IMPACT! - BOLIDES, CRATERS, AND CATASTROPHES
Elements, 2012It is now universally accepted that the impact of planetesimals, asteroids, and comets has been a fundamental process throughout the Solar System. Catastrophic impact events have been instrumental in developing the early history of the planets and have caused environmental disasters throughout Earth history.

Radiation effect of the Chelyabinsk bolide
JETP Letters, 2016A physical model of the action of radiation from a bolide on Earth’s lower ionosphere has been presented. The calculations within this model applied to the Chelyabinsk bolide on February 15, 2013, have reproduced the luminosity curves in the visible and infrared ranges in agreement with ground and satellite observations.

Peculiarities of the Fragmentation of Benešov's Bolide
Solar System Research, 2003One of the previously published models for the fragmentation of meteoroids (Baldwin and Sheaffer, 1971) is used to analyze the observed segment of the trajectory of Benesov's bolide (Benesov, EN 070591) of the European Fireball Network. An important element of these observations is the separation of luminous fragments from the main body at the final ...

Bolides in the Earth Atmosphere
2007The incremental influx of cosmic material on the Earth shows few maxima in the depen- dence on the size of falling meteoroids (Ceplecha 1992). The largest one corresponds to the impact of asteroid-sized bodies—about 3 km in size and mass of about 10 14 kg.

The cultural aftershock of the Chelyabinsk bolide
2019Humankind is beset with everyday vanities, work, and family care. If any resident of Chelyabinsk had been approached and asked in January 2013 what they thought about bolides, their origin and flight velocity, they would most likely have responded with blank looks and little understanding. After the huge bolide exploded above Chelyabinsk on February 15,
