Perspective Projection of an Ellipse and an Ellipsoid for Analytical View Factor Evaluation

open access: yesHeat Transfer, Volume 55, Issue 1, Page 44-55, January 2026.
ABSTRACT Radiative view factors are fundamental quantities for evaluating radiative heat transfer between different surfaces. While analytical expressions of view factors have been evaluated for various types of basic geometries, including circular disks and spheres, extending these solutions to more complex geometries, such as ellipses and ellipsoids ...

The Paleomineralogy of the Hadean Eon Revisited

open access: yesLife, 2018
A preliminary list of plausible near-surface minerals present during Earth’s Hadean Eon (>4.0 Ga) should be expanded to include: (1) phases that might have formed by precipitation of organic crystals prior to the rise of predation by cellular ...

The Reader‐Player Interactivity Framework: How Do Readers Navigate Diverse Varieties of Narrative Texts?

open access: yesReading Research Quarterly, Volume 61, Issue 1, January/February/March 2026.
The Reader–Player Interactivity Framework offers a cross‐disciplinary model to understand narrative interactivity. ABSTRACT Stories unfold across a varied landscape of mediums, including video games, tabletop games, interactive films, and traditional literary texts.

Seeding the Solar System with Life: Mars, Venus, Earth, Moon, Protoplanets

open access: yesOpen Astronomy, 2020
In the space of the entire universe, the only conclusive evidence of life, is found on Earth. Although the ultimate source of all life is unknown, many investigators believe Earth, Mars, and Venus may have been seeded with life when these planets, and ...

Kindberg, the fifth meteorite fall in Austria: A weakly shocked L6 chondrite breccia with high‐pressure phases

open access: yesMeteoritics &Planetary Science, Volume 61, Issue 1, Page 17-38, January 2026.
Abstract A bright fireball was seen at 4:46 a.m. CET on November 19, 2020, over Austria, and also eye witnessed in Italy and Germany. The resulting Kindberg meteorite was the fifth well‐approved meteorite fall in Austria, and all rocks represent ordinary chondrites.

Pressure as a Limiting Factor for Life

open access: yesLife, 2016
Facts concerning the stability and functioning of key biomolecular components suggest that cellular life should no longer be viable above a few thousand atmospheres (200–300 MPa).

Meteoric CaO and carbon smoke particles collected in the upper stratosphere from an unanticipated source

open access: yesTellus: Series B, Chemical and Physical Meteorology, 2013
Nanometre CaO and pure carbon smoke particles were collected at 38-km altitude in the upper stratosphere in the Arctic during June 2008 using DUSTER (Dust in the Upper Stratosphere Tracking Experiment and Retrieval).

New insights into the evolutionary history of biological nitrogen fixation

open access: yesFrontiers in Microbiology, 2013
Nitrogenase, which catalyzes the ATP-dependent reduction of dinitrogen (N2) to ammonia (NH3), accounts for roughly half of the bioavailable nitrogen supporting extant life.

Mass Extinctions Caused by Large Bolide Impacts

open access: yesPhysics Today, 1987
A wealth of evidence has forced my colleagues and me to conclude that 65 million years ago a mountain-sized object hit Earth and caused the extinction of most of the then existing species, bringing a close to the Cretaceous period of geological history and opening the Tertiary period. Much of the evidence for this lies in the unusual layer of clay that

Interception of a bolide ?

open access: yes, 1997
We present a review of the literature on the subject of a possible collision between the Earthand a meteorite or comet. We emphasize the global effects when sufficient energy is involved. We propose several types of human actions adapted to the physico-chemical nature of thecollider bolide.
