Tuning the polarized quantum phonon transmission in graphene nanoribbons [PDF]
We propose systems that allow a tuning of the phonon transmission function T($\omega$) in graphene nanoribbons by using C$^{13}$ isotope barriers, antidot structures, and distinct boundary conditions.

Texturing polymer surfaces by transfer casting [PDF]
A technique for fabricating textured surfaces on polymers without altering their surface chemistries is described. A surface of a fluorocarbon polymer is exposed to a beam of ions to texture it.

Read the free Plain Language Summary for this article on the Journal blog. Abstract Plant phenology is crucial for understanding plant growth and climate feedback. It affects canopy structure, surface albedo, and carbon and water fluxes. While the influence of environmental factors on phenology is well‐documented, the role of plant intrinsic factors ...

Generation cycles in experimental populations of a multivoltine insect
Although theory suggests various mechanisms by which environmental and ecological factors may drive generational fluctuations, our field‐cage experiment is the first to demonstrate how internal dynamics and external disturbances jointly produce synchronised, large‐scale outbreak cycles.

A Gate-Induced Switch in Zigzag Graphene Naoribbons and Charging Effects
Using non-equilibrium Green's function formalism, we investigate nonlinear transport and charging effects of gated graphene nanoribbons (GNRs) with even number of zigzag chains.

Diffusion-induced dissipation and mode coupling in nanomechanical resonators [PDF]
We study a system consisting of a particle adsorbed on a carbon nanotube resonator. The particle is allowed to diffuse along the resonator, in order to enable study of e.g. room temperature mass sensing devices. The system is initialized in a state where

ABSTRACT This article examines a wave of Orientalism‐inspired food commercials that appeared on television in France between 1975 and 2000. Older commercials for couscous were more banal, emphasizing a given product's superiority or affordability. Around 1975, however, there was a concerted shift in the advertising; new spots contained exoticized ...
