A Gate-Induced Switch in Zigzag Graphene Naoribbons and Charging Effects
Using non-equilibrium Green's function formalism, we investigate nonlinear transport and charging effects of gated graphene nanoribbons (GNRs) with even number of zigzag chains.

ABSTRACT The Social and Solidarity Economy (SSE) offers strong potential for sustainable development in low‐income regions, yet its enterprises often operate with scarce resources, weak monitoring systems, and limited visibility. These constraints hinder both their capacity to demonstrate contributions to sustainable development (SD) and their own ...

No green growth without innovation. Bruegel Policy Brief 2009/07, November 2009 [PDF]
The 'green growth' debate is taking place in an oversimplified setting, largely disregarding the innovation factor. Technologies to mitigate climate change are being treated as given, or as emerging spontaneously, ignoring the fact that the portfolio of ...

Tuning the polarized quantum phonon transmission in graphene nanoribbons [PDF]
We propose systems that allow a tuning of the phonon transmission function T($\omega$) in graphene nanoribbons by using C$^{13}$ isotope barriers, antidot structures, and distinct boundary conditions.

Abstract Research Summary We extend ecosystem theory to cases in which platforms are complementors to each other: inter‐platform ecosystems. Analyzing web traffic data on 241 European platforms, we identify and characterize demand‐side inter‐platform ecosystems, and propose a theory of why they emerge.

Perturbations in the carbon budget of the tropics [PDF]
The carbon budget of the tropics has been perturbed as a result of human influences. Here, we attempt to construct a ‘bottom-up’ analysis of the biological components of the budget as they are affected by human activities.

Read the free Plain Language Summary for this article on the Journal blog. Abstract Plant phenology is crucial for understanding plant growth and climate feedback. It affects canopy structure, surface albedo, and carbon and water fluxes. While the influence of environmental factors on phenology is well‐documented, the role of plant intrinsic factors ...

Generation cycles in experimental populations of a multivoltine insect
Although theory suggests various mechanisms by which environmental and ecological factors may drive generational fluctuations, our field‐cage experiment is the first to demonstrate how internal dynamics and external disturbances jointly produce synchronised, large‐scale outbreak cycles.
