Fluid accretion onto a spherical black hole: Relativistic description versus the Bondi model [PDF]

open access: yes, 1999
We describe general relativistically a spherically symmetric stationary fluid accretion onto a black hole. Relativistic effects enhance mass accretion, in comparison to the Bondi model predictions, in the case when back reaction is neglected.

Relativistic Bondi-Hoyle-Lyttleton accretion: A parametric study [PDF]

open access: yesAstronomy & Astrophysics, 2015
Aims. We investigate Bondi-Hoyle-Lyttleton accretion onto a black hole for ultra-relativistic flows, and how flow features are affected by density perturbations, upstream fluid velocity, and black hole spin.Methods. We use high-resolution shock-capturing (HRSC) schemes solved on curvilinear overlapping grids as demonstrated in a previous publication ...

Numerical Simulation of Hot Accretion Flow around Bondi Radius

open access: yes, 2022
Previous numerical simulations have shown that strong winds can be produced in the hot accretion flows around black holes. Most of those studies focus only on the region close to the central black hole, therefore it is unclear whether the wind production

Isothermal Bondi Accretion in Two-component Jaffe Galaxies with a Central Black Hole [PDF]

open access: yes, 2018
The fully analytical solution for isothermal Bondi accretion onto a black hole (MBH) at the center of two-component Jaffe galaxy models is presented. In a previous work, we provided the analytical expressions for the critical accretion parameter and the ...

Scientists’ warning on the global destruction of rock outcrop ecosystems

open access: yesConservation Biology, EarlyView.
Abstract Rock outcrops are geological formations that harbor a highly specialized biota adapted to harsh environmental conditions that differ from their surrounding landscapes. They are globally distributed, especially in old, highly weathered landscapes, and can function as habitat islands containing high levels of endemism and distinct evolutionary ...

Fully analytical solutions for Bondi accretion in galaxies with a central Black Hole

open access: yes, 2020
The fully analytical solution for isothermal Bondi accretion on a black hole (MBH) at the center of JJ two-component Jaffe (1983) galaxy models is ...

Expression characteristics of dual‐specificity phosphatase 2 and hypoxia‐inducible factor‐1α in acute kidney injury and preliminary study of the effect of dual‐specificity phosphatase 2 on HK‐2 cells

open access: yesExperimental Physiology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Acute kidney injury (AKI) is a global health problem with significant long‐term harm if the prognosis is poor. Dual‐specificity phosphatase 2 (DUSP2) is involved in key regulatory pathways in several disease processes, but its function in renal pathophysiology is unclear.

Radiative cooling effects on black hole hot accretion flows around the sub-Bondi radius

open access: yesAstronomy & Astrophysics
Aims. It is difficult to implement numerical simulations on a region extending from the vicinity of a black hole to the Bondi radius. Most previous numerical simulations have primarily concentrated on the region close to the black hole.

Myths and methodologies: Exposure and measurements under normobaric hypoxia

open access: yesExperimental Physiology, EarlyView.
Abstract Usually, settings of normobaric hypoxia underestimate the environmental hypoxia they are supposed to reproduce. The likely steady state of water vapour pressure within the human airways keeps the partial pressure of inspired oxygen very close to the assumed value, but this does not apply to the calculation of environmental hypoxia or ...

Isothermal Bondi Accretion in Jaffe and Hernquist Galaxies with a Central Black Hole: Fully Analytical Solutions

open access: yes, 2017
One of the most active fields of research of modern-day astrophysics is that of massive black hole formation and coevolution with the host galaxy.
