Summary A study is made of 806 cases of femoral neck fracture and osteoarthritis in which Thompson prosthesis or McKee-Farrer artificial hip joints were implanted. The mortality and morbidity were analysed, with special attention to the effects of using acrylic cement.

Radical surgery of malignant bone tumors can be limited by anatomical structures and it appears inadequate in bone metastasis. The risks of marginal or intralestional tumor resection are local respreading and spreading of tumor cells. To combat these risks, methotrexate containing bone cement was developed.
