In a comprehensive review of the records of more than 2,000 primary bone lesions encountered at operation at the Mayo Clinic in the period 1905–52, 26 aneurysmal bone cysts were found. The lesion first was recognized by Jaffe and Lichtenstein (1), this being one of the many contributions they have made in the field of bone pathology.

Aneurysmal bone cysts represent nearly 1.4% of all bone tumors, and among those, only 3% are located in the cranium. Aneurysmal bone cysts of the occipital bone
Surgical Neurology, 1983Two cases of aneurysmal bone cysts are reported. Each patient presented with a palpable mass in the occipital region and signs of compression of structures in the posterior fossa. One of the cases is unique, in that the aneurysmal bone cyst was associated with an epidural hematoma in the posterior fossa. The pertinent literature is reviewed.
