Dichromatic Absorptiometry of Vertebral Bone Mineral Content
Investigative Radiology, 1977A dichromatic photon absorptiometric technique for the in vivo measurement of the bone mineral of the spine is discussed. A high purity, high activity 153Gd source which has photons of predominantly 44 and 100 keV was used as the transmission source. The transmission scans were performed on a modified Ohio Nuclear whole body rectillinear scanner.

Bone mineral content in medieval Greenland Norse
International Journal of Osteoarchaeology, 1997The bone mineral content (BMC) was measured using a special dual-photon scanner in 25 mandibles with normal macroscopic and radiographic bone structure. The mandibles were excavated from two Norse sites in Greenland, which date to the first and last part of the medieval Norse settlement period, respectively.

The relationship between the stiffness and the mineral content of bone
Journal of Biomechanics, 1969The modulus of elasticity (E) of bone increases very rapidly with increase in mineral content, and in this is atypical of most composite materials. It is proposed that this apparent anomaly is caused by the end-to-end fusion of apatite crystals as the matrix becomes saturated with mineral.
