Formation of Stable Amorphous Calcium Phosphate and Collagen Assemblies by a Versatile Spray‐Drying Approach

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Amorphous calcium phosphate (ACP) microparticles with long‐term and thermal stability are prepared with or without collagen using a scalable one‐pot spray‐drying process. Under simulated physiological conditions, they crystallize into biomimetic bone mineral and, when combined with collagen, form extrudable, fibrillar bone‐like 3D constructs.

Analysis of sternal healing after median sternotomy in low risk patients at midterm follow-up: retrospective cohort study from two centres

open access: yesJournal of Cardiothoracic Surgery, 2019
Background For low risk patients undergoing median sternotomies, no midterm follow-up studies involving sternal healing have been conducted. In this study we evaluated sternal healing in low risk patients by chest CT scan and the risk factors associated ...

Raman Microscopy at the Organic–Inorganic Interfaces in Human Calcified Aortic Valves Shows the Co‐Existence of Whitlockite Crystals and Carbonated Hydroxyapatite‐Mineralized Collagen Fibrils

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
This study advances our understanding of aortic valve stenosis by capturing spatially resolved chemical and structural changes at the nanoscale. The findings highlight the potential of combined Raman and electron microscopy for understanding calcification mechanisms across diverse tissue types.

Metal-polyphenol networks-modified tantalum plate for craniomaxillofacial reconstruction

open access: yesScientific Reports
Using three-dimensional (3D) printing technology to make the porous tantalum plate and modify its surface. The physicochemical properties, cytocompatibility, antioxidant capacity, and histocompatibility of the modified materials were evaluated to prepare

Longterm functional results of adult intraarticular distal humeral fractures treated by open reduction and plate osteosynthesis

open access: yesActa Orthopaedica et Traumatologica Turcica, 2021
Objectives: We assessed the long-term functional results of surgical treatment of distal intra-articular humeral fractures, together with the factors having influence on the outcome.\nMethods: Thirty-four patients (25 males, 9 females; mean age 38 years;

From Food to Power: Hydrogel Thermoelectrics for Ingestible Electronics

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
We introduce a fully edible thermoelectric–electrochromic platform that harvests heat from food and converts it into a visible color change. N‐type and p‐type hydrogel thermoelectric generators connected in series power anthocyanin‐based electrochromic displays, demonstrating the feasibility of safe, biodegradable, ingestible systems for on‐food ...

Growth Plate, Bone and Calcium [PDF]

open access: yes, 2007
Studies of bone biology have been complicated by the highly organized structures and complex cellular biology. Thanks to new models and technologies, our view and understanding of the biological importance of the skeleton has expanded dramatically in the last years. We first take the opportunity to highlight a few papers discussed in this chapter.
