Dietary restrictions, bone density, and bone quality

Annals of the New York Academy of Sciences, 2016
Caloric restriction (CR), protein restriction (PR), and specific amino acid restriction (e.g., methionine restriction (MR)) are different dietary interventions that have been confirmed with regard to their comprehensive benefits to metabolism and health. Based on bone densitometric measurements, weight loss induced by dietary restriction is known to be

Bone Quality

Clinical Orthopaedics and Related Research, 1989
Bone quality is an accepted criterion for determining fixation options for total hip arthroplasty (THA). Eighty patients with 95 uncemented THAs were evaluated by comparing preoperative roentgenographic assessment with histologic evaluation of bone biopsy specimens obtained from the ipsilateral iliac crest. Roentgenographic analysis of bone quality was

Bone Quality and Fracture-Healing in Type-1 and Type-2 Diabetes Mellitus.

Journal of Bone and Joint Surgery. American volume, 2019
Patients with type-1 or type-2 diabetes have an increased risk of fracture, which is secondary to early bone loss in type-1 diabetes whereas, in type 2, the development of abnormal osseous architecture results in paradoxically increased or normal bone ...

[Assessment of bone quality. Bone remodeling and bone quality].

Clinical calcium, 2008
Bone remodeling is a sequential process consisting of osteoclastic bone resorption and osteoblastic bone formation. Excess bone remodeling reduces bone mass, while suppressed bone remodeling increases it. Bisphosphonate treatment increases bone mass in patients with osteoporosis.

Bone Quality in Paget’s Disease of Bone

Current Osteoporosis Reports, 2016
Paget's disease of bone is produced by a localized increase in osteoclastic and osteoblastic activity which can progress slowly to involve an entire bone if untreated. A common feature is enlarged bones which are deformed, particularly in weight-bearing regions of the skeleton such as the lower extremity.

[Bone quality].

Nihon rinsho. Japanese journal of clinical medicine, 2016
Bone quality is thought to encompass the structural and material properties of bone. Bone collagen crosslinking plays important roles in bone strength. The quantitative and qualitative deterioration of lysyl oxidase control and non enzymatic cross-links (advanced glycation end products, AGEs, pentosidine) of collagen in patients with osteoporotic ...

Factors influencing bone scan quality

European Journal of Nuclear Medicine, 1983
A reliable subjective method of assessing bone scan quality is described. A large number of variables which theoretically could influence scan quality were submitted to regression and factor analysis. Obesity, age, sex and abnormality of scan were found to be significant but weak variables.

Diabetes, Collagen, and Bone Quality

Current Osteoporosis Reports, 2014
Diabetes increases risk of fracture, although type 2 diabetes is characterized by normal or high bone mineral density (BMD) compared with the patients without diabetes. The fracture risk of type 1 diabetes as well as type 2 diabetes increases beyond an explained by a decrease of BMD. Thus, diabetes may reduce bone strength without change in BMD.
