Throwing Boomerangs into Feistel Structures

open access: yesIACR Transactions on Symmetric Cryptology, 2022
Automatic tools to search for boomerang distinguishers have seen significant advances over the past few years. However, most previous work has focused on ciphers based on a Substitution Permutation Network (SPN), while analyzing the Feistel structure is

SAT-aided Automatic Search of Boomerang Distinguishers for ARX Ciphers

open access: yesIACR Transactions on Symmetric Cryptology, 2023
In Addition-Rotation-Xor (ARX) ciphers, the large domain size obstructs the application of the boomerang connectivity table. In this paper, we explore the problem of computing this table for a modular addition and the automatic search of boomerang ...

Improved Rectangle Attacks on SKINNY and CRAFT

open access: yesIACR Transactions on Symmetric Cryptology, 2021
The boomerang and rectangle attacks are adaptions of differential cryptanalysis that regard the target cipher E as a composition of two sub-ciphers, i.e., E = E1 ∘ E0, to construct a distinguisher for E with probability p2q2 by concatenating two short ...

Catching the Fastest Boomerangs

open access: yesIACR Transactions on Symmetric Cryptology, 2020
In this paper we describe a new tool to search for boomerang distinguishers. One limitation of the MILP model of Liu et al. is that it handles only one round for the middle part while Song et al. have shown that dependencies could affect much more rounds,

A Formal Analysis of Boomerang Probabilities

open access: yesIACR Transactions on Symmetric Cryptology, 2022
In the past 20 years since their conception, boomerang attacks have become an important tool in the cryptanalysis of block ciphers. In the classical estimate of their success probability, assumptions are made about the independence of the underlying ...

The Boomerang Sampler

open access: yesCoRR, 2020
This paper introduces the Boomerang Sampler as a novel class of continuous-time non-reversible Markov chain Monte Carlo algorithms. The methodology begins by representing the target density as a density, $e^{-U}$, with respect to a prescribed (usually) Gaussian measure and constructs a continuous trajectory consisting of a piecewise elliptical path ...

Observation of the Quantum Boomerang Effect

open access: yesPhysical Review X, 2022
A particle in an Anderson-localized system, if launched in any direction, should, on average, return to its starting point and stay there. Despite the central role played by Anderson localization in the modern understanding of condensed matter, this ...

Reverse Archaeology: Synthetic Surrogate as Ghosting Object

open access: yesINSAM, 2019
In the second half of the 20th century, the great technological innovation of synthetic plastic matter as a natural materials surrogate created a major shift in postmodern fine arts as in total civilization.

Evaluation of hop yield stability in Czech bitter hop varieties

open access: yesKvasný průmysl, 2022
Between the years 2011 and 2022, the Czech hop varieties Agnus, Rubín, Vital, Gaia and Boomerang were evaluated in terms of their hop yield. The highest hop yield was recorded in Gaia (2.99 kg/plant) and Vital (2.92 kg/plant).
