Responses of cattle to allergens from Boophilus microplus
International Journal for Parasitology, 1978Abstract Extracts of larvae of the cattle tick, Boophilus microplus , contain two allergens giving immediate hypersensitivity reactions in the skin of cattle which have been exposed to the tick. The partial purification of one of these is described. This, together with the other allergen whose purification has been described previously, was used to ...

Boophilus microplus: Strain differences of the cholinesterase system
Experimental Parasitology, 1978Abstract Cholinesterase (EC 31.1.7 and EC 31.1.8) activity was determined for homogenates of two Argentinian strains of larval ticks, Boophilus microplus . One strain (strain A) was sensitive to organophosphate acaricides. The other strain (strain G) was insensitive to coumaphos and to a lesser degree to other acaricides.

Boophilus microplus: Antihistaminic and tranquillizing drugs and cattle resistance
Experimental Parasitology, 1969Abstract A significant increase occurred in the yield of engorged Boophilus microplus (Acarina, Ixodidae) from eight out of twelve continuously infested bovine hosts treated with the antihistaminic promethazine hydrochloride (Phenergan). Using other drugs an increase occurred with only one host out of six.

Carboxylesterases from Boophilus microplus hydrolyze trans-permethrin
Pesticide Biochemistry and Physiology, 1983Abstract An esterase which hydrolyzes the ester bond of trans -permethrin has been partially purified from homogenates of larvae of the cattle tick. The final (gel filtration) step showed two distinct peaks of p -nitrophenylbutyrate-hydrolyzing activity.

Boophilus microplus tick burdens on grazing cattle in Colombia
Tropical Animal Health and Production, 1984This study was conducted at Carimagua Research Centre in a well-drained savanna area in the eastern plains of Colombia. The objectives were to note the effect of ecological factors on tick burdens, principally the effect of the environment given by four grasses on the seasonal variations of tick populations. Adult female tick counts were carried out on

TRYPSIN‐CHYMOTRYPSIN INHIBITORS FROM THE TICK, BOOPHILUS MICROPLUS
Australian Journal of Experimental Biology and Medical Science, 1983SummaryThe eggs of the cattle tick, Boophilus microplus, contain at least two proteolytic enzyme inhibitors which have been purified and partially characterized. One of these is closely related to an inhibitor from larval ticks previously purified. It is similar in general properties, in amino acid composition and it cross‐reacts immunologically with ...

Cell death during preoviposition period in Boophilus microplus tick
Veterinary Parasitology, 2007Programmed cell death (PCD) is present during the development of multicellular organisms and occurs from embryogenesis to death. In females of Boophilus microplus, the mass of several organs is reduced after the detachment from the host. In order to better characterize the cell death process that eliminates unnecessary tissues, the degeneration of ...

Failure of Boophilus microplus to transmit irradiated Babesia bovis
Research in Veterinary Science, 1983Babesia bovis parasites which had either been freshly irradiated or had been reisolated from cattle infected 12 months previously with irradiated organisms were not transmitted transovarially by cattle ticks (Boophilus microplus). The parent unirradiated strain of B bovis was readily transmitted in this manner after being in host cattle for 12 months.
