Boosting attribute recognition with latent topics by matrix factorization

Journal of the Association for Information Science and Technology, 2017
Attribute‐based approaches have recently attracted much attention in visual recognition tasks. These approaches describe images by using semantic attributes as the mid‐level feature. However, low recognition accuracy becomes the biggest barrier that limits their practical applications.

Content-boosted matrix factorization for recommender systems

Proceedings of the fifth ACM conference on Recommender systems, 2011
The Netflix prize has rejuvenated a widespread interest in the matrix factorization approach for collaborative filtering. We describe a simple algorithm for incorporating content information directly into this approach. We present experimental evidence using recipe data to show that this not only improves recommendation accuracy but also provides ...

Control of unity power factor boost converter

Proceedings of MELECON '94. Mediterranean Electrotechnical Conference, 2002
Owing to the growing concern regarding harmonic pollution in power distribution systems, and the adoption of standards such as IEC 555-2, there is a need for power supplies whose AC line currents are low in harmonic content and have power factor close to unity.

Isolated boost circuit for power factor correction

Proceedings Eighth Annual Applied Power Electronics Conference and Exposition,, 2002
To provide a 48 volt DC bus for distributed power systems, AC-DC power converters with high power factor and isolation are required. Instead of using a conventional two stage scheme which has a boost front end followed by a DC-DC converter, a boost derived topology is chosen to achieve high power factor, isolation, and voltage step down.

A new boost power factor pre-regulator

Proceedings of the IEEE 1999 International Conference on Power Electronics and Drive Systems. PEDS'99 (Cat. No.99TH8475), 1999
A novel boost power factor corrector using a single switch is discussed. The new circuit is analyzed in steady state and experimental results obtained from a laboratory prototype are also provided. The novel converter has low current and voltage stresses and has a simple control loop to achieve near unity power factor with the aid of the commercially ...

Boosting quality factor of resonant sensors in fluids

Applied Physics Reviews
Micro-mechanical resonators are widely used in modern sensing technology due to their high-quality factor (Q), enabling sensitive detection of various stimuli. However, the performance of these resonators in fluid environments is limited by significant viscous and acoustic radiation losses that reduce their Q.
