A new approach to bootstrap inference in functional coefficient models [PDF]

open access: yes
We introduce a new, factor based bootstrap approach which is robust under heteroskedastic error terms for inference in functional coefficient models. Modeling the functional coefficient parametrically, the bootstrap approximation of an F statistic is ...

Bootstrap Inference for Fixed‐Effect Models

open access: yesEconometrica
The maximum‐likelihood estimator of nonlinear panel data models with fixed effects is asymptotically biased under rectangular‐array asymptotics. The literature has devoted substantial effort to devising methods that correct for this bias as a means to salvage standard inferential procedures.

How Competitive Is Myanmar's Rice Sector? A Comparison of Production Costs and Efficiency

open access: yesAgribusiness, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT This paper analyzes the cost competitiveness of rice production in Myanmar by examining production costs, cost efficiency, and the potential effect of improving cost efficiency on the country's global competitiveness. To achieve this, we conduct a comparative analysis of production costs among major rice‐producing countries and estimate the ...

An Improvement to Interval Estimation for Small Samples

open access: yesJournal of Harbin University of Science and Technology, 2017
Because it is difficult and complex to determine the probability distribution of small samples,it is improper to use traditional probability theory to process parameter estimation for small samples.

Can we trust the bootstrap in high-dimension? [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2016
We consider the performance of the bootstrap in high-dimensions for the setting of linear regression, where $p

Influence of Facility Size on Perioperative Outcomes in Minimally Invasive Esophagectomy for 14 152 Patients With Esophageal Cancer Based on the Japanese National Clinical Database: A Multicenter Cohort Study

open access: yesAnnals of Gastroenterological Surgery, EarlyView.
This multicenter study investigated 14 152 minimally invasive esophagectomies (MIEs) using data from the Japanese National Clinical Database and showed a significantly lower operative mortality rate in high‐volume centers than in low‐volume centers. However, no differences in morbidity rates were found between facility sizes.

Inverse Engineering of Mg Alloys Using Guided Oversampling and Semi‐Supervised Learning

open access: yesAdvanced Intelligent Discovery, EarlyView.
End‐to‐end design of engineering materials such as Mg alloys must include the properties, structure, and post‐synthesis processing methods. However, this is challenging when destructive mechanical testing is needed to annotate unseen data, and the processing methods for hypothetical alloys are unknown.

Bootstrapping Two-phase Sampling [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2014
We propose a nonparametric bootstrap procedure for two-phase stratified sampling without replacement. In this design, a weighted likelihood estimator is known to have smaller asymptotic variance than under the convenient assumption of independence often made in practice.
