Mast years increase wind pollination and reduce seed predation in sugar maple (Acer saccharum)

open access: yesAmerican Journal of Botany, EarlyView.
Abstract Premise In general, mast seeding (intermittent and synchronous seed production) increases plant fitness through economies of scale in which reproduction is more successful in high‐seed years. These benefits have been most studied in wind‐pollinated trees.

A Residual Bootstrap for Conditional Value-at-Risk [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2018
A fixed-design residual bootstrap method is proposed for the two-step estimator of Francq and Zako\"ian (2015) associated with the conditional Value-at-Risk. The bootstrap's consistency is proven for a general class of volatility models and intervals are constructed for the conditional Value-at-Risk.

Threshold Effects in Cigarette Addiction: An Application of the Threshold Model in Dynamic Panels [PDF]

open access: yes
We adopt the threshold model of myopic cigarette addiction to US state-level panel data. The threshold model is used to identify the structural effects of cigarette demand determinants across the income stratification.

Total Metabolic Tumor Volume Is a Strong Independent Prognostic Factor in Follicular Lymphomas: Results From a Sub‐Study of the FOLL12 Trial

open access: yesAmerican Journal of Hematology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Discordant results have been generated regarding the prognostic role of Total Metabolic Tumor Volume (TMTV) in Follicular Lymphoma (FL). The use of prospective data and the adoption of the newly defined standardized SUV4 method for calculating TMTV may generate stronger evidence.

Social Determinants of Health and Health‐Related Quality of Life: The Potential Mediating Role of Social Activities, Access to Medical Services, and Access to Social Services

open access: yesAustralian Journal of Social Issues, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT This study explored the mediating influences of access to social activities, social services, and health and medical services on the relationship between social determinants of health and health‐related quality of life. A survey of 602 adults was conducted in a regional area of Australia.

Molecular Profiling and Tumor Microenvironment in Sinonasal Mucosal Melanoma as Biomarkers for Enhanced Prognostic Stratification

open access: yesInternational Forum of Allergy &Rhinology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Background Sinonasal mucosal melanoma (SNMM) is a rare and aggressive melanoma subtype with a notably poor prognosis. Despite molecular characterization advances, SNMM remains clinically challenging, highlighting the need for detailed molecular profiling.

Zero-inflated and hurdle models with an application to the number of involved axillary lymph nodes in patients with breast cancer in Zimbabwe: A bootstrap resampling validation approach

open access: yesRecent Advances in Natural Sciences
Breast cancer, increasingly prevalent in Zimbabwe, underscores the need to understand the involved axillary nodal status in diagnosed patients for assessment of disease severity and its potential progression.
