Soft‐Tissue Phenotype Modification as an Adjunct to the Treatment of Peri‐Implant Mucositis—A Quasi‐Randomized Clinical Trial

open access: yesJournal of Periodontal Research, EarlyView.
This study showed that soft‐tissue phenotype modification provides additional benefits beyond non‐surgical therapy in managing peri‐implant mucositis. Notably, the effects on peri‐implant health were not mediated by improved plaque control. ABSTRACT Aim This quasi‐randomized clinical trial evaluated the additional benefit of soft‐tissue phenotype ...

Prevalence and Risk Indicators of Peri‐Implant Diseases and Buccal Soft‐Tissue Dehiscence: A Cross‐Sectional Study From a University‐Based Cohort

open access: yesJournal of Periodontal Research, EarlyView.
This cross‐sectional study of 146 patients and 511 implants assessed the prevalence and risk indicators of peri‐implant diseases and buccal soft‐tissue dehiscence (PISTD) in a university‐based cohort. Moderate/severe peri‐implantitis affected 34.7% of implants, and PISTD was observed in 54.1% of patients.

MMP‐8 in Peri‐Implantitis: A Cross‐Sectional Study on Genetic Polymorphisms and Enzymatic Activation

open access: yesJournal of Periodontal Research, EarlyView.
This graphical abstract illustrates a molecular cascade linking MMP‐8 gene polymorphism (−799C/T), upregulated mRNA expression in peri‐implant crevicular fluid, and elevated active MMP‐8 protein levels. These factors were independently associated with peri‐implantitis and may support molecular‐based diagnostics.

The Role of Viruses in the Pathogenesis of Periodontitis

open access: yesJournal of Periodontal Research, EarlyView.
This narrative review aimed to summarize current evidence on the presence and potential pathogenic role of viruses in periodontitis. Design: Narrative Review; Population: Patients with periodontitis; Exposure: Detection of viruses in oral samples (biopsies, saliva, gingival crevicular fluid, subgingival plaque, blood); Outcome: Viral prevalence, load ...
