Simple, high-performance type II β-BaB2O4 optical parametric oscillator [PDF]

open access: yes, 1997
A visible /near-IR optical parametric oscillator (OPO) based on type II phase matching in β-BaB2O4 (BBO) is described. Pumped at 355 nm, this OPO covers 410-2500 nm completely with a single set of standard Nd:YAG cavity optics.

Collinear, two-color optical Kerr effect shutter for ultrafast time-resolved imaging [PDF]

open access: yes, 2014
Imaging with ultrashort exposure times is generally achieved with a crossed-beam geometry. In the usual arrangement, an off-axis gating pulse induces birefringence in a medium exhibiting a strong Kerr response (commonly carbon disulfide) which is ...

Ultrafast Nonlinear Dynamics of Indium Tin Oxide Nanocrystals Probed via Fieldoscopy

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
The ultrafast nonlinear dynamics of indium tin oxide nanocrystals excited with 1 MHz, 10 fs pulses, at their localized surface plasmon frequency, and near their epsilon‐near‐zero wavelength is probed via fieldoscopy. The study demonstrates fluence‐dependent switching behavior, advancing the understanding of high‐speed optical modulation in plasmonic ...

Observation of quantum interference in the plasmonic Hong-Ou-Mandel effect

open access: yes, 2014
We report direct evidence of the bosonic nature of surface plasmon polaritons (SPPs) in a scattering-based beamsplitter. A parametric down-conversion source is used to produce two indistinguishable photons, each of which is converted into a SPP on a ...

Optimizing Detection Schemes for Broadband Pump‐Probe Microscopy

open access: yesMicroscopy Research and Technique, EarlyView.
Small spot sizes and broadband spectral coverage create unusual noise challenges for broadband pump‐probe microscopy. Analysis of probe and detector noise characteristics can provide strategies for mitigating these challenges. ABSTRACT Although similar to more commonly implemented single wavelength approaches, broadband pump‐probe or transient ...
