Replication of Border disease virus in ovine lymphocytes and monocytes in vitro
Research in Veterinary Science, 1994Adherent and non-adherent mononuclear cells obtained from the peripheral blood of normal sheep supported the in vitro replication of a non-cytopathic and a cytopathic strain of Border disease virus (BDV) with no apparent cytopathic effects. There was a significant rise in virus titres in adherent mononuclear cells (monocyte) and non-adherent ...

Border disease: Effect of virus administered intracerebrally to newborn lambs
Journal of Comparative Pathology, 1983Six BVD antibody-free Dorset Horn lambs, less than 3-days-old, were infected by intracerebral inoculation of BD virus. Three of these lambs (Group I) were killed 7 days after inoculation (p.i.) and 3 (Group II) 21 days p.i. None of the lambs showed clinical signs of disease. Of the 5 lambs in which infection was established, 3 of Group I and 2 of Group

Bovine virus diarrhoea-mucosal disease and Border disease in Egypt
Revue Scientifique et Technique de l'OIE, 1992In Egypt, bovine virus diarrhoea-mucosal disease (BVD-MD) was initially detected as the result of a serological survey of cattle and sheep, using the serum neutralisation test. In 1970, the causal pestivirus was isolated from bovine calves and buffalo calves with pneumonia and enteritis. Mixed viral infections were also prevalent.

Detection of a novel border disease virus subgroup in Tunisian sheep
Archives of Virology, 2004Nine pestiviruses isolated from different batches of a contaminated Tunisian sheep pox vaccine and one Tunisian field ovine isolate of border disease virus (BDV) were studied at the antigenic and molecular levels. Seroneutralization tests were carried out on three vaccine isolates, the Tunisian field isolate and representative reference strains of the ...

Properties of Border disease virus as studied in a sheep cell line
Archives of Virology, 1979A fetal lamb muscle cell line has been isolated in which two strains of Border disease virus replicate well and induce a clear-cut cytopathic effect, thus providing a sensitive and practical assay system for both the virus and neutralizing antibodies.

Persistence in tissues of Border disease virus antigen demonstrable by immunofluorescence
Research in Veterinary Science, 1980Border disease virus antigen was demonstrated by immuno-lluorescent staining in lamb tissues kept for seven days at 4°C and for six days when packed in ice in an expanded polystyrene box held at ambient temperature. Thus it should be possible to detect antigen and diagnose the disease in specimens sent by post.

Border disease: virus persistence, antibody response and transmission studies
Research in Veterinary Science, 1981Three groups of five and one group of four oestrus-synchronised sheep were inoculated with Border disease (BD) virus at 52 +/- 2 days after their first service. Transmission of virus to offspring as demonstrated by virus isolation, detection of viral antigen and, or antibody response occurred in 12 of 19 sheep and probably in four others which aborted ...

Studies on the relationship between bovine virus diarrhoea virus and border disease virus
2018The pathogenicity for the placenta and foetuses of ewes infected with plaque purifed stocks of the 2 reference strains or of 3 field isolates of CP BVDV was very mild. Failure to recover virus easily was attributed to poor replication of these stocks in vivo.
