Multiple-Eccentric-Sensor-Based Borehole Transient Electromagnetic System for Nondestructive Evaluation of Oil and Gas Well Casings

Springer Series in Geomechanics and Geoengineering, 2021
Borehole transient electromagnetic (TEM) techniques are widely used for nondestructive evaluation (NDE) of oil & gas well casings with eddy-current diffusion properties. In this paper, we present a multiple-eccentric-sensor-based borehole TEM system for NDE of downhole casings.

Assessment of near-surface mapping capabilities by airborne transient electromagnetic data — An extensive comparison to conventional borehole data

Geophysics, 2014
ABSTRACT A newly developed helicopter transient electromagnetic (TEM) system has the ability to measure very early times within just a few μs after the turn off of the primary current. For such a system, careful calibration and accurate modeling of the electromagnetic (EM) response is critical to get true resistivities of the very ...

Borehole transient electromagnetic response calculation and experimental study in coal mine tunnels

Measurement Science and Technology
Abstract Water damage seriously threatens the safe production of coal mines, so it is necessary to carry out advanced detection to determine the hydrogeological situation, and the preliminary survey often involves the drilling of on-site drill holes in the tunnel.

Inversions of surface and borehole data from large‐loop transient electromagnetic system over a 1‐D earth

Geophysics, 2001
Abstract Large-loop electromagnetic (EM) systems that measure transient EM (TEM) data on the surface or in boreholes have shown increased application in exploration geophysics. Accurate interpretation of borehole TEM data is necessary to discover deep hidden targets that cannot be detected with surface systems.

Application of Borehole Transient Electromagnetic System in Relief Well Drilling: a Case Study

2021 3rd International Conference on Intelligent Control, Measurement and Signal Processing and Intelligent Oil Field (ICMSP), 2021
In the process of offshore and land drilling, once the blowout out of accident occurs, oil and gas resources will be seriously damaged, which will be easy to cause catastrophic events such as casualties and environmental pollution. Drilling a relief well beyond a certain distance around the blowout well to achieve connection is an effective way to ...

Effect of conductive host rock on borehole transient electromagnetic responses

Geophysics, 1989
Abstract Transient electromagnetic (TEM) borehole responses of 3-D vertical and horizontal tabular bodies in a half-space are calculated to assess the effect of a conductive host. The transmitter is a large loop at the surface of the earth, and the receiver measures the time derivative of the vertical magnetic field.
