Composite Electrospun Fibers Containing Optimized B‐ and Cu‐Doped Bioactive Glass Sol‐Gel Particles for Potential Soft Tissue Engineering Applications

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
This article describes the preparation and characterization of poly(ε‐caprolactone) electrospun composite fibers incorporating sol‐gel‐derived bioactive glass particles doped with B and Cu. Scanning electron microscopy, energy‐dispersive X‐ray spectroscopy, Fourier‐transform infrared spectroscopy, contact angle, acellular bioactivity, mechanical and ...

Tsunami-Induced Bore Propagating over a Canal—Part 1: Laboratory Experiments and Numerical Validation

open access: yesFluids, 2022
This companion paper investigates the hydrodynamics of turbulent bores that propagate on a horizontal plane and have a striking resemblance to dam break waves and tsunami-like hydraulic bores.

Evaluation of the Potential of Laser Shock Peening Compared with Cold Expansion for Improving Fatigue Resistance of Riveted Lap Joints of Aerospace Grade 7175 Al Alloy

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
This study investigates laser shock peening for enhancing fatigue performance of riveted aerospace aluminum joints. A comparative approach with cold expansion combines fatigue testing and synchrotron X‐ray methods. Integrating mechanical testing with residual stress and strain characterization provides insights into how different treatments affect the ...

Minimal model for tidal bore revisited

open access: yesNew Journal of Physics, 2019
This develops a recent analysis of gentle undular tidal bores (2018 New J. Phys. 20 053066) and corrects an error. The simplest linear-wave superposition, of monochromatic waves propagating according to the shallow-water dispersion relation, leads to a ...

A Hamiltonian Boussinesq model with horizontally sheared currents [PDF]

open access: yes, 2012
We are interested in the numerical modeling of wave-current interactions around beaches’ surf zones. Any model to predict the onset of wave breaking at the breaker line needs to capture both the nonlinearity of the wave and its dispersion.

Interactions between Molten High‐Silicon Electrical Steels and Carbon‐Bonded MgO Refractories Based on Recyclates

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
This study examines how several molten high‐silicon electrical steels interact with both conventional and recycled MgO–C refractories. For this, various immersion experiments are conducted. In addition to infiltration, a number of mechanisms are identified and explained that control the corrosion of the refractory material.

Reservoir formation in shallow granular flows through a contraction [PDF]

open access: yes, 2005
We consider flow of dry granular matter down an inclined chute with a localized contraction. Measurements and analysis show that changes in particle volume fraction are important, especially across granular bores.
