Boron Nitride Nanomesh

A highly regular mesh of hexagonal boron nitride with a 3-nanometer periodicity and a 2-nanometer hole size was formed by self-assembly on a Rh(111) single crystalline surface. Two layers of mesh cover the surface uniformly after high-temperature exposure of the clean rhodium surface to borazine (HBNH) 3 .

Boron Nitride Nanotubes

The successful synthesis of pure boron nitride (BN) nanotubes is reported here. Multi-walled tubes with inner diameters on the order of 1 to 3 nanometers and with lengths up to 200 nanometers were produced in a carbon-free plasma discharge between a BN-packed tungsten rod and a cooled copper electrode.

Determination of boron and nitrogen in boron nitride

Improved techniques are described for the determination of boron and nitrogen in pure boron nitride. Controlled fusion of boron nitride with sodium carbonate in a muffle furnace is followed by a potentiometric titration of the boric acid. A special quartz vessel is described for the determination of nitrogen.

As the structural analogue of a carbon nanotube (CNT), a BN nanotube (BNNT) was first predicted in 1994; since then, it has become one of the most intriguing non-carbon nanotubes.

Interlayer shear of nanomaterials: Graphene–graphene, boron nitride–boron nitride and graphene–boron nitride

In this paper, the interlayer sliding between graphene and boron nitride (h-BN) is studied by molecular dynamics simulations. The interlayer shear force between h-BN/h-BN is found to be six times higher than that of graphene/graphene, while the interlayer shear between graphene/h-BN is approximate to that of graphene/graphene.

Continuous laser vaporization of a BN target under N2 atmosphere is up to now the unique route to single-walled boron nitride nanotubes (BN-SWNTs).
